Looking at taking a 7 day trip this summer and am currently looking at Vegas and Miami. Going to rent a car for the trip. Which one is cheaper and has more things to do? I know Miami is a huge city compared to Vegas and the traffic is probably worse.

7 days in Vegas is 4 too many IMO. You could stretch it by going to the Hoover damn and Grand Canyon.

I guess Miami. Are you staying put or driving to see the keys, Everglades, etc?

Probably want to stay put near the beach. South Beach is nice but it’s expensive as hell. Don’t really feel like going farther north. Would love to visit oceanwood drive.

The Wynn is where I’d want to stay at if I went to Vegas but it’s expensive as hell too. A double queen bedroom goes for close to $700 a night. Definitely wouldn’t stay at Circus Circus

If you are worried about money dont go to either of those locations.

What are you looking to do?

Vegas is a pedestrian city that's easily navigated.

Miami has been a crime ridden traffic jam for decades.

What do you want to get out of your vacation?

Somewhere that’s nice and still affordable, preferrably

Id like a place that has scenery and a good food scene. Is the Cuban food in Miami good?

Vegas: Staying at The Palazzo, Resorts World or Trump is much cheaper and will put you in the same area as Wynn and you’ll get just as nice of a room with excellent amenities. You can set reservations at restaurants at Wynn if you like.

You should probably only stay a few days in town and check out surrounding Natl Parks in UT and AZ as suggested.

Miami: Check out Coconut Grove, Fort Lauderdale, or West Palm as alternatives. You can always Uber to South Beach. The beach is public, but you’d have to bring your own chairs & umbrella. The hotels will not let you use theirs.

I like Coral Gables, too, but it’s not on the water. Check out Old’s Havana or Versailles for Cuban. We loved Baires Grill and Graziano’s in Coral Gables for Argentine cuisine.

A day or two in the Keys is worth the drive.

Fly into Fort Lauderdale. Miami Intl is disgusting.

Pick a nice MLB city for a home series.

Denver, Colorado for example,

The Pittsburg Pirates are there for a 3 game series with the Rockies June 14-16, 2024. Lots of scenery and shouldn't be too hot. Say hi to Livvy for me.

Trump is a pretty nice hotel. And inexpensive too. The only problem is that the area it’s in is a complete shithole. It’s in the worst part of Las vegas

I love to gamble but 3-4 days in Vegas is all I can do. If you're spending 7 days I'd do Miami and then head out along the coast/keys

Check out san juan puerto rico. More affordable than either vegas or miami but still get the latin vibe.

Id look into excaliber, flamingo, or luxor if you want inexpensive but decent.

We did the flamingo last year and it was the cheapest by a mile, and I was really surprised how nice it was.

They did a big renovation a couple years ago, so just request an updated room

7 days is too much for Vegas. For Miami too unless you go to Key West. I would divide my time between Miami and Key West with most of the time in Key West.

What about Panama City in Panama? Is that a nice city to visit? I’ve heard good things about it.
