MSY Parking

Has anyone parked at the MSY airport before? We are planning a vacation in May for 5 days and wondering what the best way is. Do I pay ahead of time or can I pay as I arrive?

Pay when you leave.
Better get there early if you need a spot, it’s always packed
Prices are high

Prices are high at the airport, but it's a nice parking set up. They have U.S. Park close by that's cheaper and can take you over to the airport. Last we checked, if you are new you can sign up online to reserve and get a couple days free. It's been awhile though since I have done it.

US Park does have great deal for first time parkers. You do have to take a shuttle so depends on time of flight, kids, luggage if it's worth the savings.
Official MSY parking is at the airport, walk to the gates. You can reserve spots online to be sure you don't show up to a full lot, which does happen.

Reserve a spot online and park in short term parking. It’s closer and only a couple dollars a day more.

Even the long term parking isn't a bad walk to departures. It's even easier when leaving.

I will 2nd U.S. Park. I have used it multiple times with no issues. We used it as recently as Mardi Gras since we were traveling with my sister in law we specifically took her car and still got the 1st time discount.

Cheapest parking is at the old airport and take a shuttle. $12/day.

This is what I do.

Short term…park and walk right in the door.

I think the cost to reserve a parking spot in the short term lot for 5 days is over $130 and that's ridiculous. Something reserved in the long term would still be over $120 I think and that's about 99% as stupid.
I think without a reservation the short term lot for 5 days would run $22/day ($122) and long term is $20/day ($100) so unless the travel plans are over a very busy weekend you're just throwing money away for an un needed reservation.

When traveling with my family (for a week) what I have found to be the easiest for us is I drop the family off curbside at the terminal with all of the checked baggage and I drive to the economy lot with everyones carry-ons.
I park at the economy lot and take the shuttle back to the main terminal which takes about 25-30 minutes to drive there, park, take the shuttle back, etc
While I am parking they are checking the bags and then they head to get some food, drinks, etc and setup shop and we all meet up at the gate.
We all avoid walking with big too far with luggage.
I avoid dealing with airline personnel.
They avoid shuttles.
I avoid waiting for a morning cocktail and breakfast sandwich.
We all win.

For short trips, 4-5 days or so we normally just parking in short term or long term parking without a reservation but keep an eye on the availability of the lot all the way up to driving to the airport.
Unless parking AT the airport is a high priority for some reason, there is no need to make a reservation there. US Park and the economy lot are both better options for the price IMO.

Thank you all so much. I'll probably end up just going with short term parking. I like the convenience of not having to take a shuttle and just walk right in.

Rolled in, scanned QR code, and went to park, came down to the 1st floor and got in the shuttle bus. Arrived at the airport 12 minutes later.

Short term lot. Third floor. Right next to the baggage check

Yes, every week. It’s $20 a day for the garage. Never had an issue. There will be plenty of spots in May. You pay when you leave.
You can always consider US Park but that adds time into your trip.

I am in the same boat.
Here is what I found out and was looking for recommendations.
Economy Lot:
62 dollars at old terminal
Surface Lot:
92 dollars
Long Term Parking at New Terminal:
102 dollars
Short Term Parking at New Terminal:
112 dollars
Or Park USA on Veterans:
Using an 8 dollars a day coupon for approximately 40 plus tax and fees.
Which option is the safest?

All parking options at MSY are safe. The difference is cost, connivence and time from parking spot to terminal.
Short-term is most convenient, you are inside/under cover from parking to terminal, long-term is a 50 yard covered walk to terminal, Economy and US Park require a shuttle trip from parking space to terminal.
Done them all, all work. I have not tried the valet service at departures yet, that is too rich for me so only chance I ever use it is if I was running horribly late (like 30 minutes before departure) and both long and short term are full, which can happen, but is rare.
