Must see places and restaurants in Roatan

I am in the beginning stage of planning a trip to Roatan. I am planning to dive at least two and maybe 3 days. I think we are going to stay in West Bay.
What some places to see while we are there? Who is the best to dive with? Any restaurants recommendations?
TIA

Dive shops are on West BayBeach. Fantastic diving. Iron Shore Grill was really good when we were there. The beach does not lack for local bars/ restaurants.

We stayed at barefoot cay resort about 10 years ago. Restaurant at resort was so great it was tough to venture out. Very good spot for scuba as well.

We stayed at brisas del mar. Really enjoyed it there. I dont dive but they did have a dive shop. Great location to walk to restaurants on west end.
Sandy buns owned by a texan
Argentinian grill for some steak
Kristis overlook for some great food and a beautiful view
If you have children little french key is worth a visit. My daughter loves big cats and they had leopards, panthers, tigers, etc. i chatted up one of the caretakers and he let us go close as possible to about 3-4 tigers in a cage.
Of all the beaches i enjoyed camp bay beach the most because it was beautiful and there was nobody on the beach.

Great diving. If u you ou don’t mind rustic take the ferry or a quick flight over to Utila, and do some diving over there as well. Lots of cheap dive shops but can be no frills.

Don't forget that you can hire a local cook to come to your villa for cheap to have the fam rolling around on the ground in their fatness afterwards. Cheap. Are we really flying to Roatan for a sit down culinary experience? We had to buy eggs from a village nearby that didn't have electricity, it was fine.
We bought live Lobsters at essentially $2 each (my ex-MIL cooked) from guys she waved down from the dock at the compound., who immediately went to catch them. It's not in West Bay, but is not far if the driver is sober. The issue is that most of the roads are not lit, horses, randos on the road, etc. once you get North of town and turn on the gravel roads. But you probably also won't want to leave.
Do you realize how borderline backwoods (not in the Country Boy Can Survive sense) Roatan can get? Kids going to schools with no shoes, etc.? Horses on gravel roads? Our place was North, not South, but it may be jarring. Judging by your username, I don't expect you'll be surprised.

Lobsters are a gera idea but keep in mind they have a specific lobster season down there. Out of season you're poaching if you do it on your own.
Speaking of the east end of the island there's a little bar at the far eastern end called La Sirena. It's fun for a visit and a couple of beers.

Roatan is definitely third worldish in places. Not an island you should just explore on your own. Stick to the resort areas or hire a reputable driver. Great diving and snorkeling.

I went all over on my own with no issue. would I go walk around a slum in coxen hole? no, but dont stick yourself in a resort when you could have fun at the many places all around the island.

How did you do it? Not a good idea to rent a car IMO. I wasn’t suggesting sticking to the resort. But if I wanted to go somewhere I would hire a reputable driver. It may not be as dangerous as the mainland, but it’s still Honduras.

i rented a car. tbh there were tourists all over driving around the island. I dont think you have anything to worry about driving.

Well you always have people voicing concerns about driving in Mexico. Honduras is worse. I’ll tell you a story I am familiar with. My dive shop had a land based trip to Roatan a few years back. One of the people on the trip rented a car and clipped a local on a bike. Busted him up pretty bad. Got arrested and things got real ugly, including with threats of serious violence. You ain’t in the US down there. No freaking way am I renting a car in Honduras.

Just stay out of Coxen (hell) Hole and you'll be fine. A driver for the day is cheap so not a bad idea to do.

If you are in a car, hit someone and they die you go to prison in Honduras. 100% of the time. This is why I'd gt a driver.
