Looking for best local bars and close places to stay. Wife (no pics) and I will be in Nashville that week and this will be our first visit. We've got a few day trips planned, but plan on making the most of night life while there.
There is a huge Grand ole opry event that week, but tickets are through the roof for that event, so not interested in that. Looking for some independent rock bands or older country bars.
Any suggestions for entertainment and places to stay appreciated.

What do you have planned as far as day trips? I was there 2 weeks ago and we loved it. I think must-dos are The Ryman tour, Opry tour, Johnny Cash museum and Country Music Hall of Fame.
We did the Opry tour then went to the show Friday night. Saw Maggie Rose, Old Crow Medicine Show and a few others. Vince Gill closed the show, and he was amazing. The Opry tour guide had $10 off coupons for the Friday and Saturday shows.
Also took a trip to Franklin (weather sucked, but a cool little town to drive around in), Gibson Garage, Belle Meade Historic Site and The Hermitage (Andrew Jackson's home).
Spent some time on Broadway, but honestly if we went back, I don't think we would do it again. Really crowded, and you have to share the street with groups of drunk people, bachelorette parties and the homeless.

Blue Bird Cafe is always a good time. It's a famous Songwriters room.

So much to see and do here! Get your head around lodging being expensive, especially if you want to be downtown.
I have friends stay at:
Renaissance Nashville Hotel
And the.. Hyatt.
Or maybe look into the Millenium Maxwell House.
The Twelve Thirty Club is a neat venue downtown for drinks or meals.
Roberts Western World is a popular "dive bar" (not really, but it's an iconic landmark place for music!) Haven't been there full disclosure. Not my "scene".
Have had co-workers go to Skulls Rainbow Room and they loved it.
I do like Acme Feed And Seed. Down near the river. Converted hardware store with several levels of bars/restaurants, including a nice roof top bar.
What I love about the area is the number of outdoor activities you can do, parks etc.
Spend some time hiking at Radnor Lake!

Since you're in Nashville for almost a week, and you're looking to switch things up one or two nights outside of Broadway and The Gulch, check out Germantown and East Nashville (i.e. Five Points). Some great bars, breweries, and restaurants.

Great suggestions. Thanks all.
We are planning some day trips to Lexington and Claiborne farms. Also Bowling Green and corvette museum. My wife wants to run over to the Ark as well. Nothing is set in stone at the moment.

Another must-do, the Musicians Hall of Fame. Permanently housed now in the 'bowl' of the Municipal Auditorium, it caters to Country, Rock and Roll, Blues... Most famous for housing the actual instruments that the big names have played on monster recordings through the years. I was surprised that the drum set that recorded thousands of songs (Hal Blaine) looked like it came from an old Sears catalog. Big place, worth 2 hours at least..

Yes, but it's next to impossible to get tickets. You need to be waiting online when they go on sale and you still may not get them. The Listening Room is a great alternative with pretty much the same songwriters. They all make the rounds. It's a much larger venue and therefore much easier to get tickets. There is also a songwriter show at the Commodore Grill at the Vandy Holiday Inn.
For shopping go to The Gulch or 12 South. Lots of Insta worthy selfie spots and influener known brands, if you have someone in your party that likes that stuff...Draper James, Stoney Clover, Love Shack Fancy, the shop from Southern Charm, etc. Not my thing, but I've been with folks who like that. 12 South still have a few more local type places but they are quickly being replaced by more known brands and small chains.

This
And this-
RCA Studio Two. It is where a lot of Elvis songs were recorded along with tons of others. Great tour, lots of recording history. The Abby Road of the USA. You have to go thru the Hall of Fame to get tickets. They bus you over and back.

Sucks that the Brickyard Cafe is closed down. That was always one of my favorites when I would visit Bowling Green. Go down to Fountain Square and check out the different places there. Some nice restaurants and pubs/bars.
