We are currently reevaluating our beach vacation to Destin in late June. With Florida still being cagey about La residents, I don’t want to rely on the state making the right choice. I am wary of trying to pack into Orange Beach with the rest of rejected Louisiana folks. Plus I don’t feel like spending money in Florida if we aren’t welcome.

I haven’t been to Padre in 30 years but from what I have read and seen on various shows it looks like a good family vacation spot. Has anyone been there recently or does anyone have any recommendations about the area?

I hope this thread is a joke. There has been one of these threads every six days for a month. Try second, maybe third page.

Padre is not FL...
Pros:
Less expensive.
Can camp on the beach (North Part of the Island) by the reserves.
Multiple fishing piers. (North Part of the Island)
Better fishing around the Port Aransas (Mustang Island) / North side.
*** I am defining better fishing as like more catches, not the diversity at any one time.

Cons:
It is not a "really" WHITE sandy beach, not as bad AS SOME HAVE MADE IT OUT TO BE. South end of it I is nicer.

No lobsters as there are no reefs and you will not have the "emerald" waters of Destin

Abundance of shrimp, bring a cooler.

You can Ferry from North to South but there is not a connecting bridge would have to use regular high way to go around if not the ferry

This right here. It’s a different experience. It can be great but understand what it is. It’s not 30A. It’s in the Valley, so it’s close to Mexico. The fishing is great and the species diversity actually is pretty cool for Texas. You can catch kingfish, smacks, and tarpon off the jetty and trout, reds, flounder, snook, mangroves, and drum in the Laguna.

Some great fresh seafood, Mexican food, and a few neat bars. Just don’t haul your wife and kids down telling them it’s just like going to the Panhandle.

It’s nowhere near as trashy as people on here describe ASSUMING you go on a random non-holiday weekend. It’s no trashier than any other beach town. You’ll have a good time if you avoid like memorial day, july 4, labor day for instance. This draws huge crowds plus all the people from across the border.

Look into renting a condo or a beach house, most of the hotels are older but nice.

Some good entertainment for kids, good food (Tom and Jerry’s is run by an old friend of mine, great burgers and beers, padre island brewing good pizza and beers, d’pizza joint, feldman’s liquor and sandwiches, Blackbeard’s, Marcelo’s across the bay in Port Isabel is a great italian spot, Louie’s backyard or Amberjacks for a nightcap and live music)

Claytons is a decent scene but it can get crowded/trashy on weekends

Fireworks in the bay mostly every night at 9pm

Fishing is great, nothing like fresh fried speckled trout and gulf skrimps

Man I haven’t frequented the area since hs but a lot of the bayside spots like Louie’s and Amberjacks used to be poppin back in the day

The radisson bar scene is probably alright. Clayton’s is nice if you catch a quiet night. There used to he a daiquiri spot right off the bridge a few years back. Fake ID TYFYS

The beaches at Padre are better than Miss.

I used to go..would camp on the beach but would get a cheap room to go and shower.

As someone said, do not do holiday weekend. Bring a rod / reel w coolers
