Will be in Oregon early to mid October. Flying into Portland and driving over to Cannon Beach. Will be heading south from there for next 4 days. Any must sees ? Restaurants ? Will definitely go to Ecola State Park for some hiking. Would love to stop at a winery or two.
Thanks in advance. The advice and tips I got from this board last year for a trip to Olympic National Park were terrific.

Probably too late in the year for the seal caves in Florence.
Definitely Cannon Beach. Newport and Rogue Brewery is worth a pit stop. Decent places to eat there.

The Yachats area was very cool. Pretty neat features and overlooks in that area. It's likely further out of your way than you want to go, but I will mention Crater Lake. It was one of my favorite places to see.
Near Yachats, there is a small boardwalk just off the main highway. Darlingtonia State Natural Site. It is maybe a 15 minute stop, but pretty neat. It is a boggy area that is full of native pitcher plants. It isn't the sort of thing I'd go out of my way to see, but we were passing by and glad we stopped.
That area has Thor's Well. Devil's Churn. Cape Perpetua Overlook.

Driftwood was a pretty good restaurant in Cannon Beach.
Fort George Brewery in Astoria was also a good stop.
Here's a list I have saved in my phone. I haven't been to all of them:
Oneonta Gorge
Saddle mountain hike
Cape Lookout
Oswald west state park-short sands trail
Multnomah falls
Neahkahnie trail
Kiwanda Point
You could also go the other way into Hood River for a day.

Pacific City is a must visit.
On the way south from Cannon Beach, be sure to stop at the Tillamook Cheese Factory for cheese samples and ice cream.

Both of these are on the way to Hood River.
Oneonta is out in October. Best done from Aug to mid September. You climb a log jam and walk through/across a small stream but at the end to see the highlight you wade through 4' of water.

It’s pretty far south, but our favorite areas on Oregon Coast are Bandon and Boardman State Park near California border. Walking the beach in Bandon is amazing and Boardman state park looks like you’re in Hawaii…we loved Cannon Beach though, has a mountain town feel.
Pacific City is cool with the brewery and huge sand dune. Manzanita and the whole area around Tillamook is beautiful as well. Really can’t go wrong on the Oregon coast. It’s polar opposite from Portland, especially as you work your way south

Correct. When I went Oneonta was actually closed. Not sure if it still is

A little drive. But Redwoods NP in Northern California is amazing. Fern Canyon was where some of the Ewok scenes were filmed in the original Star Wars movies.
Healthy elk herd to see in there. Eureka and Arcata are cool towns.

Cannon beach and Newport are very cool and have good food. You can head south down the coast to Tillamook and hit Thor's well and devils churn as well while doing those two.
After that you could head over to Roseburg for some really good wine tasting.
Astoria is quite cool as well if you wanted to start you coast trip there. I'd second the fort George brewery suggestion.

There a great pie shop in Oceanside and Tunnel Beach was pretty cool as well. Not far from Ecola State Park which is a must see when on that area.

Bumping this thread to thank all those who replied.
The Oregon Coast is truly spectacular. I think Devil's Churn and the Dunes in Pacific City were my favorites. We had a great mix of weather, some marine layer and some sun. The scenery everywhere we went was just tremendous. Also made it to Bandon Dunes and spent a day in Willamette Valley. Everyplace we went lived up to the recommendations. Only thing I would tell others to skip ...Tillamook Cheese factory. Love the cheese, but honestly thought place was a tourist trap.
Again, thanks for the tips.

Consider yourself lucky.
The entire NW is/has been dry.
First real rain storm of the fall is rolling in Friday.
It's so bad they've shut down fishing on several coastal systems due to low water. I'm having a hard time remembering when it was this dry for this long going into fall.

It has evolved into one, but it is a legitimate Pacific Northwest icon similar to Avery Island in Louisiana. Tillmook is a long time, extremely popular local brand up here. Their Tillamook creamery has continually expanded to meet the demands of visitors. It was never originally created to be what it has become. Unless they changed things there, you could always watch them make cheese and sample it at no charge.
