Staying here two nights around July 4th as there is a festivel there on the 4th that my daughter is participating in.

Never been to the Greater Marksville area... any good local places to eat or things to check out? I don't gamble and we will be at the festival all day on the 4th, so lookng for dinner ideas on the 3rd and anything to do on the 5th.

Also... looks like from NOLA area, 10 to 190 to LA 1 is the way to go... so anything worthwhile on LA 1 as far as good places to eat, etc?

Hot Tails in New Roads would be good spot for some grub.

I haven’t been to Paragon in years but the last time I went it was really run down. It was like if Walmart opened a casino and put it on plank road. Hopefully it has changed

It’ll always be grand casino avoyelles to me

In marksville broken wheel brewery/fresh catch is very good. Nice newly remodeled bar as well. Red Kettle just opened and has been getting good reviews. I think it’s a breakfast all day type of place. Habibi’s is a lebanese place and the food is good. Daiquiri island (aka the hut) right across the way. Frijolito’s and Los Amigos are good mexican spots. The best hole in the wall is Harry’s hamburgers at the intersection of 452 and 1190. Cash only but you can get a good hamburger, fries, drink and a milkshake for about $12 Alexandria is only 40-ish minutes away and there are some decent restaurants there.

Down the road in Mansura you have the ynot stop and Lambeaux’s which is a chicken place. I haven’t been to Kyrle’s in years but it’s still there and still packed every Wednesday-Saturday night.

Eta- Paragon also does fireworks on the 4th.

Go through Krotz Springs and get some boudin, cracklins, and rib bites from Kartchner's. Try Billy's on the way home.

Habibi’s is really good Greek food.

Juneau’s is right across the road from the casino and has excellent boudin balls.

There used to be a couple of really good restaurants there that are no longer open unfortunately. Red River Grill & The Brown Bag

I don’t think so. Just take your pick of boudin/balls, meat pies, cracklings, etc.

Broken wheel has some very good gourmet burgers too. The brown bag with the goat cheese, mushrooms and onion marmalade is great. Harry’s is more your classic backyard burger but still so good and so cheap

Chicken palace in mansura was the plate lunch spot but the ay-rabs who bought it a couple years ago shut down the restaurant and now it’s just a gas station.

Broken Wheel has good food, their own brand of beer and a great atmosphere.
