Park City vs Breckenridge

Looking to make our first family ski trip for Mardi Gras 2020. My wife and I have skied before, not experts. 2 kids, 8 & 9 will be their first time. Looking for skiing, snowmobiling, restaurants etc. Not just a ski only trip.
Park City is a little more expensive, but I have heard that the crowds at Breck make it not so enjoyable. I have been to Breck when I was a teenager, and I remember the main street being a cool area with lots to do.
My question- is it worth the extra expense to do Park City to avoid the crowds at Breckenridge? Are the crowds that bad? Both areas seem to have a great ski school as well as tubing/etc.

Park City.
Much quicker drive to/from airport
Less crowded
Plenty of terrain to explore in 1 trip
Town is sweet
Plenty to do in the valley or a short drive away

Take a look at Powder Mountain outside of Ogden, UT. Much cheaper than Park City.

Thanks guys- looks like Park City is the place. I've dug around and found a few AirBnB's that are comparable to Breck pricewise.

I also choose Park City. Im not wasting a ski trip on Breck

I live in Denver and would choose Park City over Breck. Posters have already stated the reasons above. Try to ski Deer Valley one day if you can.

You probably can't go wrong with either location. I prefer Breck but PC is a great area, too.

But Peak 6 at Breck is incredible.

Park City and Deer Valley are great. Deer Valley is my favorite.
Something else to consider... Breck’s base is nearly 10k feet vs Park City at 7k. Altitude sickness is a bastard.

Going with my wife and 2 kids over Mardi Gras. We're staying at The Lodge at Mountain Village. Is it necessary to rent a car?

Do yourself a favor, if you go to PC, and you get a car, jump over to the other side, Little Cottonwood Canyon, do Brighton, Alta, Snowbird,,,,much more economical that PC, Canyons, Deer. Alley

I would also choose Park City.

Coloradans generally don’t ski Breck. There is a reason for that. It never made the short list for either day trips or a week of skiing. It’s for Texans and other flatlanders.

Also check out if Brighton still offers night boarding. It’s cheap and awesome boarding at night time. I use to go all the time when I lived there.

Best way to try & avoid this?
Oxygen Bar?

Water, in my opinion. The portable oxygen cans help too if you’re not accustom to it.

This right here....the other side is way more economical.
I would recommend DV for one day - drop the kids in the ski school. Do the turkey chili at lunch, then do dinner at fireside. Ski all damn day - ski in and catch a drink at the fancy hotel - that is overlooked by tourists.
Boston911 is on point:

Never heard of Powder Mountain. How is it for slope variety? I need lots of green easy for wife and kids.

Park City. I haven’t been to Breckenridge in a long time, but was in Park City last year. We didn’t ski at all. That’s a story for another day, but just from the outside looking in, it looked not crowded and beginner/family friendly. There’s also a ton of stuff to do.
Olympic Park or whatever it’s called was worth half a day and you never know who will be there practicing at any particular time.
We got in the car and rode to Sundance one afternoon. That’s a beautiful drive. Heber City made me mad at my relatives that they stopped looking for land when they got to the MS Delta.
The shops on Main Street are cool.
It’s just got a great balance of being able to ski the whole trip if you want to and plenty of other stuff to check out if you don’t.
