What’s the best way to travel from Florence to Positano. Will be me , Mrs jkyle, and two teenage boys. Not sure if date matters but will be end on June. I’ve googled around but gotten several different answers. My thinking is train to Naples and then switch to regional train to Sorrento. Not sure if regional train goes any further than that or if I’d need a transfer from there. Also reading about train to Naples (or Salerno) and ferry from there. ? For those that have made a similar trip id like to know the best way so I can start locking down seating and what not. Thanks in advance.

It appears on Rome2Rio that from Sorrento to Positano you're going to end up on a bus.

It can be 4:51 in duration with 3 changes, but about an hour longer with only two changes. The amount of baggage your family hauls would heavily influence my tolerance for multiple changes. If everyone is a well oiled machine, or it's just me, I'm taking the shorter route.

Thanks for the info. Considering it’s a longer trip and my wife is in attendance we will prob have an absurd amount of luggage.

We ferried from Naples. Get on your wife about the luggage. It is a pain in the arse to haul a lot of luggage onto and off trains and ferries.

Yeah I’ll try to keep her in check. Luckily for packing purposes it’ll be hot so no cold weather gear will be a plus.

For reference my wife and I will be in Italy for 12 days in June. Part of the trip will be in the Dolomites which will be cooler weather. At most we will pack a medium suitcase each and most likely a small suitcase each with a backpack.

I rented a car and drove from Cinque Terre to Tuscany to Sorrento. We made a stop in Pisa and another NE of Sorrento to visit a town with personal family significance. Gets a little tough around Sorrento but otherwise very easy drive.

Train or fly to Naples then get www.transferelax.com to drive you to your hotel in Positano.

Rules for traveling with me is if you pack it, you drag it. Fortunately, we have gone enough that my wife has gotten her luggage under control.

You will be under enough stress/aggravation already and do not need any more to worry about.

We hired a driver from Naples airport to Positano. It was about an hour drive, made everything easy and wasn't much more expensive. It may be even cheaper than the other options if it is 4 of you.

Get ready to experience one of the most terrifying roads in the world. The bus that goes from town to town on the coast is insane.

That's light packing?

Thanks so much for the replies. We are starting in Florence and ending in Rome. Bulk of the trip will be spent on Amalfi coast though . The transfer sounds like the way to go. Again thanks for all the info.

It’s the different weather. Need gear for cooler weather and rain in the Dolomites and much warmer weather in Bologna. Normally it’s a small suitcase for each of us.

Is there something wrong with the trains/busses?

I see tickets online from Naples to Vico Equense on the Curreri bus for 13 euros and it says it takes 40 minutes
Or use the Circumvesuviana train for under 7 euros
