I've been using an Osprey Daylite Plus for all my carryon stuff: Kindle, headphones, chargers and cords, travel documents, hat, jacket, keys, sunglasses, snacks, sometimes a laptop, water bottle, etc.

The Osprey isn't really big enough and doesn't have the many organizational compartments I want.

I want lots of organizer pockets, water bottle holder that isn't cheap mesh, compression straps, hidden pocket, comfortable straps, durable material, not a huge pack that sticks out a foot from my body, etc.

I like packs where the laptop sleeve is on the outside of pack on the back and not inside the front of the pack in the main compartment.

My budget is $100ish. I don't mind going a little over, but I don't want to spend $200+ on a backpack.

I looked at LL Bean and don't see anything. They discontinued the Quad pack, which was what I was looking for.

Also looking at North Face Surge and Eddie Bauer Adventurer.

Looking for other suggestions.

I have a Patagonia Arbor 26L (feel free to downvote for political reasons they piss me off too despite making good stuff). It seems it’s a 28L now but essentially the same design.

I use the pocket in the flap to secure less used and valuable items. Storage cubes for clothes in the main compartment. The front pocket for quick stashed items. Even if the main compartment is packed, there’s a laptop sleeve in the back that’s easily accessible. Everything else is stored on top of the storage cubes.

I have a lot of bags. This is the one I always go back to.

I recently bought a Timbuk2 Authority. They have other backpacks that are worth a look too like the Division. The Authority is sold out on the Timbuk2 website, but if you google other places have them like Dell or Luxtiques.

I wouldn't like this at all. That seems like putting "steal me" in neon lights.

That’s the worst bag they have. I have the stratos 34l osprey and it’s the best bag I’ve ever had

I may have described it wrong. It's on the outside, but in the back of the pack, so essentially your laptop is against your back, which is actually better than being in a pack that opens away from your back.

Got it. That sounds better. With the way packs are and the separation/visibility and where I've worn mine I figured I'd make a comment, but maybe just a dumbass.

yeah me too, great pack and super durable.
OP if you want a pack that’s suitable for actual backpacking the stratos is hard to beat. I don’t care for the “urban” daypacks at all. A laptop pocket is useless in the woods, but you can easily fit a laptop in a good hiking pack. Stratos comes in 24, 26, 34 & 36

Not looking for a hiking backpack. More interested in something I can use when traveling(mostly flying) that will hold everything I bring, plus have room for stuff I acquire along the way, if needed.

Want good organization though. Don't want to have to dig around a big main pocket looking for my cords, chargers, snacks, headphones, tablet, etc

I have that one as well, and it checks every box in the OP's request list except for maybe the size.

I have the Osprey Porter 46 and like it, has everything you mentioned.

I think it's normal price is $140-160 but I've seen it on sale for $120 before.

Looking at Tom Bihn Synapse

Synapse

It's more than what I really wanted to spend, but apparently it's indestructible. Think I may pull the trigger on this one

I resemble that remark!

It's an ok bag for day hiking. Actually have the smaller version as well.

But..

For an upcoming Europe trip 2nd carry on pack for stuff (not lap tops etc.), notice Amazon has a Osprey Stratos 34 and 24 among other sizes. Too much bag for that purpose? Other alternatives/brands if not? Thanks!!

I have the Osprey Farpoint 55 and although it’s technically above “carry on”, I’ve carried it on with the small day back detached over a dozen times. You can unzip it off when you get the plan an use it as your personal item. Perfect for me

I just got the North Face Surge and love it. Its big enough for a couple days worth of clothes and has many compartments. The water bottle holders are huge as well. I let AMEX buy mine, used some points I had available but if I recall I think it runs about $125.

I didn't suggest Tom Bihn because it was out of your price range. I have the Synapse and the Synik. Both are great. Synapse is relegated to a baby bag at this point.

If you're getting up in this price range you might as well consider the GoRuck GR1 too, especially the Huckberry version which is more subtle. It and the Synik are the two bags I use for most everything. Synapse is fine too if you don't need the Synik upgrades.

I use a Filson Journeyman. Although above the price range it might be worth splurging if you like heritage style gear. It won’t wear out
