Have you made this drive recently? Is my best bet I-20 / I-35?
Or should I take HWY 79?
Thanks

Have not driven it in a long time, (used to be my territory) but coming all the way into Dallas and then dropping down seems like a long way but it may be just as fast if there is no construction. about 335 miles
Not a suggestion but a possibility:
S'port to Longview, Longview to Lufkin, Lufkin to I 35
about 300 miles
Also your other option of 79 at Marshall is a good route.
about 260 miles
do a search on Google "best route Shreveport LA to Austin TX" and you will likely see all 3.
I just do not know the construction in the area these days. If driving daytime, I may risk and use 79

I live in Waco. My in-laws live in Shreveport. No option - drive I-20 to Tyler. Take exit 562 off of I-20 to Tyler. Take loop 323 around Tyler (don't take toll road). Take Hwy 31 from Tyler to Athens to Corsicana to Waco. All 4 lane roads. In Waco, get on I-35 South to Austin. This route is 4 lane all the way from Shreveport to Austin. Takes about 3.5 hours from Shreveport to Waco then 1.2 hours from Waco to Austin. Total trip less than 5 hours and minimizes traffic on I-35. Most of I-35 from Waco to Austin is 3 lanes in each direction. I am sure people will say take 79, but I would pass on that route.

I live in Dallas. I hate driving 35 south to Austin/SA so much, I take 4 day weekends when I go so I can drive down mid morning and come back Monday to avoid traffic. Avoid 35 as much as you can.
