Looking for a quick weekend trip and considering bringing the kids down to ride part of the Tammany Trace. Haven’t researched anything yet and am in the very early stages as far as planning goes.
Does anyone have suggestions for restaurants accessible from the trail? Which town would you suggest staying in? Is there a shuttle available to drop you off or pick you up somewhere along the trail to keep from backtracking? Any suggestions or tips are welcome.

no shuttle

stay in abita and go back/forth to mandeville or do the reverse. It’s a nice ride. Plenty of bars/eats in both places at the trailheads. Farmers markets in both (Saturday mandeville and Sunday abita). Mandeville lakefront is also a nice bike ride

Second. Abita brew pub is always solid for lunch or dinner and it’s right on the trace. Music on Friday nights, market has music on Sundays and is right next door. Go off the path and ride around old Mandeville and the lakefront, especially on Saturdays. Plenty of good food and drink options and pretty area overall along Girod and the lake.

I would stay in Old Mandeville. Several B&B's near the lake. You can catch the trace from anywhere in OM.

Barley Oak is a great place to grab a beer/bite after the ride. Rusty Pelican, Beach House, McClain's are casual eats in the area. Rest Awhile, Nuvolari's, Rips more "upscale."

You could ride up to Abita and have lunch at the Abita Brew Pub or Abita Springs Cafe.

You could also ride towared Lacombe, hit Fontainebleau State Park. A few less eating options heading that way.

There is a market every Saturday AM at the Mandeville Trailhead, and one on Sunday in Abita if I remember correctly. Friday nights in spring/summer there may be a concert at the Mandeville Trailhead.

Great replies everyone, exactly the type of info I’m looking for. Especially interested in local, casual restaurants and best centrally located place to stay. Sounds like that may be mandeville.

Also, I knew a girl that lives in mandeville that used to talk about a pizza place either there, abita springs, or Covington that serves Chicago style pizza. She used to rave about it. Anyone know what this might be?

That was "That's Amore Pizza", but they've closed the Mandeville location. They still have a location in Metairie.

I would also agree with staying in Old Mandeville and check the schedule for free Friday Night Concerts..

There is definitely more of an active social scene in Mandeville.

The ride from Mandeville to Abita via the trace is about 9 miles so it's not just a stroll by any stretch.

To get to Covington from Abita, it's about another 4 or so miles.

If you have your own vehicle and bike rack what you could do is park your car at the Covington trailhead then uber back to your B&B in Mandeville. Then, make the one way trip from Mandeville to Covington stopping in Abita (stop at Chafunkta Brewery for beers and food trucks, Abita Brew Pub for apps) then you can drive back to Mandeville once your done.

I'll add that kayak rentals are available below the Chimes in Covington. You can bike up to it from the Trace. Could be a good little cool off between rides.

Abita Brewery is family friendly with games and nice seating options inside or outside. Brewery tours are available.

Farmers markets in Covington, Mandeville and Abita are accessible by bike, from the trace.

Depending on the age of children, there is a park at Koop drive just north of the interstate in Mandeville. There is also a children's museum there, but it's geared more towards younger children.

If you end up East of Mandeville, Naan's restaurant is a great family spot. Indoor/outdoor seating, activities for kids, really good food and an ice cream/snowball stand across the common area. Great family place.

Thanks for all the tips. Decided to make a quick day trip out of it since there was no availability at any of the b&bs this weekend.
Loaded up early this morning to head south.
Introduced my kids to ancient technology. Now I know why y’all called it “Old” Mandeville.
Rode from Mandeville to a mile or so the other side of Abita Springs and then back.
Rode around the lakefront some and then headed home. All in all a little over 20 miles of riding on the day. Ate at Abita brewpub and enjoyed it. Stopped at the snowball stand next to Abita Cafe and it was good as well.

ETA: made a pilgrimage to the Lynyrd Skynyrd memorial on the way home like all good white trash should.
