Things to do in Warm Springs, Georgia

Will spending a few days there and I've never been there. The group will consist of mostly middle aged people, so we're really focusing on some outdoor activities.

Callaway Resort and Gardens are about 20 minutes from WS.
The FDR Little White House historical site is near WS. IIRC that’s where he died.

Thanks for recommendation! I'm definitely going to check them out and also look into some hiking, if the weather cooperates.

It's an incredibly tiny place to spend days. Roosevelt park has some trails but it's very rustic. Meaning sometimes you'll have to 'find' the trail. Calloway will remove you of some money and waste a day. It's nice and people rave about it, but to me it's a once you see it... you've seen it place. Same with Little whitehouse. Lots and lots of pine trees.

I got stuck in that area for about a week evacuated for Katrina. We decided we would kill some time seeing Calloway one afternoon, and when we pulled up and told them that, they waved us in.
All I really remember about it is the fact that I would have been pissed if I had actually had to pay anything.

The Little White House is interesting for a few hours. You can spend a day at Calloway. There are different things to see. You can rent a bike, hit the beach, play golf, shoot skeet, and other things. There are some trails on Pine Mountain to hike if you want. Wild Animal Safari is nearby, if you are into that kind of thing. The last time we went, you could drive your own car through, but I think now you go through on one of their busses.
You are not that far from Columbus, which now has some white water rafting. There is also the Infantry museum at Ft. Moore (Benning). It's a pretty impressive museum. Columbus also has some Confederate ironclads that they pulled out of the river.
There is a local BBQ style that is kind of unique to that area of east Alabama/west Georgia that features pit-cook BBQ with a hot mustard/vinegar sauce (not sweet at all).

The best time to go to in that area is between Thanksgiving and Christmas when they have the Christmas light show in Callaway Gardens. You drive your car through the Gardens at night. It takes about an hour or so and it is absolutely dazzling and breathtaking. It will bring out the little kid in you no matter how jaded you are.
