Typical cost for a 7 day vacation.

Hi folks, I'm trying to decide if I need to re-evaluate what I'm spending on vacation and just be okay with spending more than I am used to. I always values other's opinions.
Now, I'm talking about just a "normal" vacation, no bucket list situation where you don't care about expenses, but just trying to get an idea of what most people spend on a 7 day vacation, and whether I need to be okay with the cost increases I'm seeing and stop being frustrated.
My example is with cruises, but that has been for several years now, our main vacation choice. We typically would spend for flight, cruise for 7 days (which of course includes food and lodging), with tips and taxes and all around $2000-2300. However, in the last 2 years, prices have increased dramatically as demand has grown and ships are sailing full. I'm looking at $3K minimum now, and that is flying in main cabin and not something like economy plus.
Is $3K for a week for 2 people low, high or somewhere in the middle, if you include flight, stay, food and entertainment?
I try to think what it would cost for me to fly to Florida or California and stay in a hotel for 7 days, buy food, entertainment, etc and what that would cost. Of course entertainment costs can vary wildly.
I understand if you have kids the costs are different, but I'm just curious overall what people consider a fair cost for a week's vacation.

You’re looking at probably $800 for a flight, $1200 for lodging, and $500 for rental car and fuel. I’d say budget $100-125 per day on food unless you’re someone that likes to eat at nice restaurants. That puts you at another $800. That’s over 3k before you’ve really done anything.

My wife and I typically average $1k a day when you add all the flights, lodging, food, shopping, stuff, etc.

My wife, daughter, and I are heading to Boston from Monday - Friday the middle of next month. Here's the breakdown so far:
Flights: $1,900
Hotels: (Boston & Cape Cod): (Boston - $1,400; Cape Cod - $1,900)
Things booked so far (walking tour, ferry to Nantucket, etc.): $500
Car: $400
We're at $6,100 before food & shopping, and I think this is a "normal" vacation - we're not flying first class or staying at the Four Seasons...
Maybe add another $1,000 in food??? Few hundred in shopping???

Got them back in March, so maybe a little higher then?
About $1,500 base, then taxes, and then early bird.
And that was one of the best deals we could find...

Just like everything else, vacation costs have gone up the last few years. I’m guessing my costs have gone up about 40% compared to 2020
I have two kids so my costs are a little different

If we do a beach trip we usually keep it under 3k but this year we are doing Disney and that is costing me about 7k.

We’re doing a cruise out of Galveston, driving from Dallas, free night at hotel on points, parking, excursions, spa treatments, and specialty dining for $3500.
It’s going to be hard to do that outside of an all inclusive. I looked at other options on land and it just made more sense to cruise. The on land options I looked at (Colorado, Chicago, Hilton Head, Florida beaches) were only 4 or 5 day trips and cost the same, but were clearly shorter.
You could get good deals in Vegas, but I don’t know that you want to stay a week there.
If you’ve got a Costco membership, you might want to look at their vacation packages.

It depends on a lot of factors, but in general a week vacation for two people is going to be well north of $3k if you’re including flights, rental cars, etc.
On average you can assume lunch alone will be in the ballpark of $50/day, likely more. Dinners will be at least $100/day. Assuming you don’t have breakfast or snacks, you’re already at $1000 just on food.

Thanks all. Good input. I think part of my angst is spending more for the same thing (ship, room, food, ports, etc) are all the same they have always been, just costing 25-40% more. Ugh.
Sounds like it's still cheaper than most land vacation options though.

At least for some of my vacations, I'm still able to make reasonable trips even in the current environment.
For flights, leaving wednesday nights or thursday nights instead of on fridays will save costs. Travel during off seasons aka come to Florida in the summer, PNW in the winter, northeast during the fall, etc. Another thing to add for the flights is try and book reasonably priced flight tickets well in advance (6am or 7pm times). The airlines all have schedule changes and if they change the flight times by more than an hour, you've got a golden ticket to change to any flight times you want by asking nicely or trying to change online. This can help you get rebooked to great flight times for free (9am, 1pm, etc) saving hundreds in costs on well-timed flights.
For dining, I don't need to splurge on every meal so for something like a ski trip I end up stopping at a grocery store to buy some PB&J, chips, and snacks to save costs. But I'm also a single guy

For location, I'm not opposed to driving 20 minutes to save $500+ versus 'being in the town'. Good example is this coming Christmas, I booked 4 nights at a hotel in a town 20 minutes outside of Aspen for $650 rather than spending over $2k for a room in Aspen itself.
And I know this gets more complicated when you've got additional mouths to feed and account for when traveling so not discrediting anything already mentioned, it's more finding that balance from going out to eat every single meal versus having those few special memorable meals. But I also get that it's a vacation and you want to do things you don't usually get to experience.

I'm in Playa Mujeres right now. Got here yesterday until next Saturday. Family of 4. Booked about 340 days ago and it was $5,300 or $5,500. I think it's closer to $6,000 now for a week.
Direct flights, booked Nov 2023, were $5,000 for a family of four. That's Anytime tickets on SWA.
Plus o have about $500 in tips.
If you really wanna break it down, dog sitter was about $550 too.

It depends on where you plan to go. My wife and I are spending 8 days in Costa Rica in July.
Flights- $700
Rental car- $650
Hotels- $1000
We eat at sodas much of the time with a few nicer meals, so 3k- $3500 is probably about
right.
If I chose to take the family back to 30A- you can more than double that. I probably spent 5-6k taking my wife and 3 of our kids to Purgatory for the summer.

One thing to consider if you haven’t already - do you have points you could redeem for flights? That would save a lot on a trip budget.

I do have miles with Delta and Chase. Been trying to save for a Hawaii trip. I have a companion ticker with delta, but rarely find availability I can use for a cruise.
