Waldorf Astoria NYC taking reservations again

Dear Friends,
What a joy it was when I woke up this morning at 3. I set my alarm this morning because today was the day most of us have been waiting for the last eight years. In case you forgot, today is the day that the Waldorf Astoria in NYC has begun taking reservations again! Mother and I had the opportunity to tour the facility earlier this year and I can assure you that what we saw was world class.
Although the hotel is scheduled to reopen sometime this Spring reservations are not open until September of 2025. It appears the standard rate right now is $1600 for a basic room. $2100 for a junior suite. A Park Avenue view suite is $6000. Because the Travel Board is the very best of all TD boards, I propose we have a Travel Board gathering next year in New York. If enough are interested, perhaps we would even be able to get a discounted rate.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

Friend:
Why weren't they taking reservations?
Perhaps my butler can stay in the Park Avenue suite.

We like to stay at the Benjamin, diagonally across the street from the back of the Waldorf Astoria.

Stayed there several times over the late 80s to early 90s for an annual convention that was held there. One year they upgraded me to a suite when they found out I had been appointed to a committee that was in charge of selecting the site for future conventions. One night I got to ride in the reserved suites elevator with a very inebriated Jerry Lewis and he started singing Luck Be A Lady to my then wife. He got off the elevator before us, and when he did, he started acting like the Lewis from the 60s comedy movies, including his trademark "hey laddyyyy" scream.

I just finished a five-night stay at the Waldorf Astoria in Rome. It was my first Waldorf Astoria stay, and it will not be my last.

What's the deal with the Waldorf - has there been a complete overhaul? Because it was pretty nasty.
ETA: 20 or so years ago, I was invited to an event in the MacArthur Suite - evidently it's where he lived for several years. It was pretty cool, because every piece had a name. Like, I made a call on the Kennedy phone while sitting at the Eisenhower desk.
Anywhoo, the party got going pretty good and there were a lot of young college-aged kids there. One of them ended up knocking over this ornate wooden eagle statue thingy that fell to the floor and shattered. I don't remember exactly, but it was in the vein of "oh, this is the gift that the Prince of whatever gave to President whomever back in 19xx". So, we high tailed it!

I think Ballyhoo on Isla is more our style.

Do they still have the Pillow Menu?
