7 AM flight on Tuesday. Is it really necessary to get there two hours early? Going to park at airport and have one bag to check.

Do you have PreCheck? If so, give yourself 45 mins at minimum. If not, at least an hour and fifteen or so.

1 hour is fine. MSY is actually pretty efficient and a good size airport.

However, parking has been pretty full lately and you might have to do a few circles of the garage before you find a spot. Give yourself another 15-30 minutes for that.

Got to the airport 1.5 hours before my flight Wednesday, had time to grab lunch and eat before I had to board.

Depends on the airline and if checking luggage. Flew out SW at 7 am recently. It took an hour to check luggage secondary to there inexplicably being only 2 people staffing the desk, and a line of about 200 people waiting to check bags. It was maddening.

No other airline had over a 5 minute wait.

Even the TSA pre line has been a 20 minute wait lately. The regular line has been very full.

I get there one hour early and use the airport every week or two. Most days I have time to stop at CFA on my way to the gate. Usually I have ten minutes at the gate to eat or read.

How has it been lately? Fly out on southwest at 6PM and am planning on getting there at 4PM bc I’m checking golf clubs.

Does anyone know if you can self-tag golf clubs with southwest? They say they have self-tagging at MSY on their site.

TIA

There was a news story yesterday about bad lines. Hopefully it was just a one-off.

Southwest at MSY is always busy. I’d suggest carry on only or getting to MSY early if you fly out with them.

Any arrival time opinions on a 5:20am weekday departure?

yes, you can self tag but it's two lines. One to get your luggage tags (and boarding passes if you need them) then you get in another line to check the bags

if you're traveling with anyone else send them in the line to check your bags while you get in line to get the luggage tags

Without knowing whether you have TSA Pre or not, are you parking on site, which airline wand whether you're checking any bags, I'll just answer 4am because those factors could swing the time frame by EASILY over 30 minutes even at 4:30am

The last few times I have flown out of Nola has been before 8am and it’s always pretty packed, not sure why. I assume it’s due to cheap early flights but this week I flew out at 8am on Monday and had to wait almost an hour to get through security (mind you very few people appeared to be business travelers, all seemed to be leisurely traveling). I came back Tuesday at around 1030am and there was hardly a line to get through security.

As long as you’re not checking a bag I would get there an hour early to get through security has I have found it to be relatively long in the morning times

About 30 minutes for security this afternoon.

I have CLEAR so can't give a time for the line but Tuesday AM at ~6A was one of the longer security lines I've ever seen. CLEAR usually offers free trials and can enroll your entire family and sign up on arrival, takes <10 min.

was just there Thursday for a 630am flight and it was a shitshow. Depending on airline it’s an 30-45 minutes to check baggage and then another 30 to clear TSA. Go early not late. I took a Uber to the airport as well so I didn’t have to deal with parking or shuttle

I planned on being parked by 4. Four of us. Southwest. Checking at least 1 bag. No TSA Precheck. Pretty much everything going against us. Sounds like I need to adjust earlier. I thought 5:20am would likely mean fairly empty and perhaps ample parking... I forgot I'm dealing with New Orleans planning.

How can you build a new airport and have parking insufficient right from the start?
