Where to stay in Florence Italy? Also Rome.

We only have two days in each bookending a trip that’s main focus is the Amalfi Coast. Where is a good spot to stay for ease of access to the major must -see/do places. I’ve been eyeballing a place in Rome on the south tip of Borghese gardens and for Florence I’ve been looking around the pointe vecchio and uffizi gallery area. Interested to hear your feedback. Thanks in advance.

I cannot answer for Rome, but we stayed in this place in Florence this April. No complaints, clean, comfortable, quiet and in a great location to everything that we wanted to see and do.

In Rome, look at places in the Trastevere area. Plenty of small hotels & apartments. I stayed in the Hotel San Francesco last year and it was good.

Appreciate the replies so far. We are all booked up for an Airbnb in Positano. It’ll be just me , Mrs jkyle and two kids (15&17) . The kiddos usually hang back on international trips so this will be their first. My first time to Italy. Pretty excited.

Trestevere is best spot in Rome. How many in your party? We stayed here LINK. For location you couldn’t beat it. It’s just a few rooms but we liked our room was big, great shower etc. only issue my wife didn’t like was it is in an old building and has a small very old elevator.

Near Florence, consider Villa Pandolfini in Lastra a Signa. It's about 30-40 min outside Florence. Great place and worth the commute.

We stayed at Hotel Lungarno many years ago. Right on the Arno and a very short walk from the Ponte Vecchio bridge. Great hotel and location.

We stayed in Trastevere in Rome and would recommend it.
In Florence, we stayed across the river just inside the wall, on San Niccolo, in the same building as Rifrullo Firenze. Looks like the the place we stayed is no longer listed on AirBnB, but would highly recommend that location. It's at the foot of the Piazzale Michelangelo, and the Giardino delle Rose. La Beppa Fioraia and Enoteca Fuori Porta are around the corner. Plus the views from our AirBnB were beautiful.

Seems to be a popular choice. Would you recommend it for just a short two day stay though ? I was kinda thinking perhaps we’d stay somewhere walkable to the major attractions with such a short time frame ?
The plan we have for now is to get there from Positano. Check in or store luggage. Hit up a colosseum tour that afternoon then have a nice dinner that night. The next day we have a private group tour of the Vatican /sistine chapel / peters basilica at 730 am. From then we thought we may just get a 24 hour big bus tours pass and kinda just see everything and spend a litttle time around each of the major attractions. Next day we fly out around noon.

My second visit to Rome was this past April traveling with a first timer. We flew out of Rome after a trip to the Amalfi coast. We only had 1.5 days in the city. After the morning Vatican tour, we did an afternoon golf cart tour that hit all the highlights...pantheon, Trevi fountain, Spanish steps, Piazza Navona etc. It was just the three of us in the cart and he took us to about 8 different spots. Way more custom and personal that a big bus tour. I believe they have larger carts that can accommodate more people.

That’s sounds really cool. Did you book it somewhere locally or something like viator.

It was through Viator. They picked us up at the hotel and dropped us off back there after.
I'm hesitant to recommend Viator because they canceled our night colosseum tour the day before we were set to go. We had other things booked through them that were fine, including the golf cart tour, but I guess I'm still mad and bitter about that one cancellation.

Just got back yesterday from my 3rd trip in 2 years. For Florence the area you are looking in is perfect. We stayed at Kairos Art Apartments on via dei Neri and for a trip with teens it’s ideal. We did the 2 bedroom deluxe.
For Rome I’ve stayed all over but the closest we stayed to the borghesi was down via del corso on the other side of the pantheon. Looks far but for Roman standards wasn’t a very far walk at all at a hotel called Terrace Pantheon Relais. We loved that place and I’d definitely recommend it.
ETA: be prepared for tiny everything. Cars, elevators (when available), rooms, bathrooms. Use iPhone maps to navigate. Rome is under construction preparing for the jubilee next year.
3rd time doing the Vespa sidecar tour in Rome and it was so much fun. We did the night one that starts at the palazzo vecchio. My then 14 year old was pretty thrilled with sitting behind her young tour guide on a Vespa. She just tried to ignore her nana in the sidecar and myself watching from the back of another Vespa. Really a great tour for teens.

San Firenze suites in Florence. Just went. Fantastic.
We stayed in the Hotel Della Torre Argentina in Rome. It was pretty centrally located, but doesn’t compare to San Firenze
