Not an OT baller, so the budget isn’t unlimited.

We stayed at the Hyatt Centric just before the word went crazy. Easy walk to Mallory Square and Duval street. parking onsite and liquor store down the street!.

Waldorf reach is worth every penny. It’s the only hotel in key west with private beach access.

Most important thing is to stay in old town so that you can walk everywhere. They have a few bigger hotels but a lot of smaller boutique type places too. Simonton Court is our favorite.

I stayed at best western hibiscus ( I know I know... best western.. yikes... but look it’s reviews up and research it.. ) ... and for a budget it was a solid deal. It’s close to the southernmost point... I rented a scooter and rode it to the other end of Duval .. there are plenty of taxis and ubers down there as well so you won’t feel like you’re missing out by not staying at the other end
It was fine... had a nice pool with cabanas all around it .

It’s also only like 1.2 miles from one end of Duval to the other so it’s an easy walk/bar crawl

Hotel Marquesa, boutique and luxury, but offering some really good deals right now: LINK
If you prefer less luxury, slightly funky (in a good way), the Island City House has kitchenettes, a wide variety of room styles spread over multiple buildings, breakfast everyday in the open air courtyard, resident friendly cats, bike rentals, and a small but serviceable pool. Close to everything but not noisy. LINK. Clean, decent place, not the sort of place that worries about decor. Onsite laundry, too.
ETA: some of the rooms ar Island City House have balconies with swings or hammocks.

I'll 1-UP this with: Hidden Beach (can be found on AirBnb, VRBO)
It's an awesome AirBnb with it's own private beach and waterfront pier. But here is the catch, it's right nextdoor to the Waldorf Reach. And the owners leave you an access card. So you can walk next door and have all the amenities of The Reach, but also have your own private waterfront area at your place. I'll probably never stay anywhere else in Key West after staying here.
ETA: Easy walking distance to Duval St.

I always stay at the Reach it’s near the southern most point and walking distance to many things.. if I fly in and don’t rent a car a bike will get you anywhere

I just looked into this, they only have two weeks of availability in October for like the next 5 months. Looks nice though.

I'm looking into this based on your recommendations. The pictures on the website look great.
Why are the Booking and Tripadvisor reviews so ridiculously low? Seems odd.

I loved it when I stayed but the reviews might be just because it’s more like a decent beach resort than it is like most places in the Waldorf name. If I recall, it is a renovated hotel that used to be from another brand so it just isn’t as high end as traditional Waldorf properties.
Personally, I loved it. Granted that was in like 2009/2010.

The old Sheraton has been converted into a nice Margaritaville. Right where the cruise ships dock.
They offer a Covid Front Line worker discount of that applied to you.

Our go to spot, King Suites for around $175. Right in the middle of where everything happens. Mainly only adult guest and a great staff.

Can you provide a link to this place? I can’t find it on VRBO and it sounds interesting!

Just stayed at the Ocean Key resort in June. We got a partial ocean view room. This is on the busy side of Duval street.
