If he hammers legislators on being ineffectual placeholders especially when it comes to insurance rates and economic development, he could surprise.

Don't be fooled by the "Eagle Scout" persona. He went up against Billy Nungesser... and prevailed.

“Billy had texted me beforehand and I had told him that, ‘Look, this is a very very unpopular idea."

“I just kind of walked up to the podium and I said that I think that this is a bad idea and I had a list of reasons as to why I thought it was a bad idea that I think are very legitimate. They tried to shut me off and I was like, ‘Look, these people out here are who I was elected to represent. This is their issue and this is their park,'” said Nelson.

Of course not. This is Louisiana, remember?

Tort reform passed. Insurance rates didn’t drop, however.

There’s no new hotel/development in the park.

It did and rates did not go down. Insurance companies will blame Ida,etc. But the truth is, they were inching up prior to Ida. So that means that the " reform" was not reform, but merely window dressing.

Found this video yesterday whilst down the rabbit hole. It got me thinking two things, his change to the prescription period for personal injury seems logical, but also probably hated by LABI. Second thought was that he mentioned paying down debt!!!

Seems very data and results driven like an engineer. Have other legislators given up on the tort reform thing after their omnibus did nothing? Does trying to readdress it just remind people they were wrong?

Just because something is called "tort reform" doesn't make it so.

Thanks for sharing that video.

That was very encouraging. Nelson needs more opportunity to speak. He is very articulate and speaks to the granular detail of these issues. It's nice to hear politicians not speaking on imaginary issues and in platitudes.

Disclosure, he is not my rep but by district is adjacent to the district he represents and is only separated by a boat ride across the Tchefuncte. I don't know him personally but I grew up in a house only a couple of blocks from where he currently lives.

There is a reason for that. That is irrelevant to this discussion, though. Why, in personal injury cases, is Louisiana the only state in the country that does not require a plaintiff to prove their case?

Bruh.

Housley is a rebuttable presumption. You have to meet certain requirements to invoke it in the first place. You still have to prove your case.

Here’s more from a reputable defense firm:

That was an excellent short interview.

I found it funny how Nelson framed abortion with exceptions as a center right issue. Maybe abortion with the exceptions of rape, incest and the health of the mother is a center right position in Louisiana, but nationally it’s faaaaaaaaaar right.

Anyway I like what I’m hearing especially his main issue of getting rid of state income taxes. If he keeps it up I’ll probably throw a few hundred or so at his campaign.

Such as? I honestly don’t know. Does any other state have the same presumption?

I’ve never heard of Nelson until a week ago, but he’s got my vote right now. I think if Graves stays out, he’s got a chance.

Nungesser should be embarrassed over the way he’s been acting….”Wah, that’s not how party politics works, you have to wait your turn so we can keep recycling the same ineffective losers.”

He's soft on crime. Even if he had a chance, which he doesn't, I wouldn't vote for him.
