Sad news to wake up to. I was luck enough to see him five or six years in a row here in Atlanta. The concerts were fun and the pregame in the parking lot legendary.
My favorite song of his has to be Island...but I think I'll have Death of an Unpopular Poet in the playlist today.
He had been sick and in the hospital a couple of times in the last year and cancelled some shows, but just recently wrapped up a new album, so it seemed he was getting better. But there was an announcement a week or two ago that his postponed Charleston show wasn't going to be rescheduled l, so I guess that was when he took a turn for the worse.

This truly saddens me. He was a legend who made great music.

I really do appreciate the fact you're sittin' here
Your voice sounds so wonderful
But yer face don't look too clear
So bar maid bring a pitcher, another round o' brew
RIP Jimmy. I saw him many times and had a hell of a good time every time.

Looks like he'll be doing his Labor Day weekend show in paradise with cheeseburgers.

I think one of his frat brothers showed him how to play.

Anybody know where he was living at?
I thought I ran in to him a couple of weeks ago at a Lake Martin store.
The guy really looked like him.
He was buying bait and ice, and cuttin up with the girl at the store.

Funny....Door Number Three is the first song to pop into my head.
I saw him a couple of times in Lafayette when he was starting out. I was a DJ at the time and had a backstage pass. He stood next to me when he was waiting to do an encore. He had just released Margaritville.
Note: He was the second richest musician, Paul McCartney was first.

My guess is his place in the Hamptons/Long Island. I think he had houses there and Palm Beach. Not sure if he kept a place in Baldwin County or not.
Maybe it was him; I guess it depends on how quickly his health took a big downturn.
I saw Randy Owen at a gas station in Chilton County in the late 90s/early 2000s. No telling where a famous person with connections to the state will show up.

I love the lines from "Migration"
"...and mobile homes are smothering my Keys, I hate those bastards so much. They're ugly and square, they don't belong there, they look a lot better as beer cans!"
I still get a chuckle out of that verse....don't know why.

One of the greats and one of the rare ones who beat some of the biggest cretins on the planet (music industry shysters). I found this from a business magazine that profiled him:
He had learned about the music business after college, when he wrote for Billboard magazine. There he saw how poorly the music industry took care of its artists. “It was indentured servitude, and it still is,” he said. He tried to stand up to the record companies, but it was impossible. He signed with MCA Records (now Universal). He wanted to keep his publishing rights, but the label wouldn’t give him a record deal unless it owned everything. What choice did he have, then? “If you apply supply and demand, there’s always a supply of talent who’s willing to do anything if you aren’t,” he said.
One day he realized that even if you were the supply, you could also be the supply chain. “It’s up to you to figure out how to take advantage or to manage whatever you’re going to do,” he said. “Margaritaville” was a hit in 1977. But more important, on that day, Margaritaville® was born.
Dude was talented and smart and did all right for himself while making a whole bunch of people very happy for a long time. Sail on …

I’ve always had a special affection for Brahma Fear and Kick it in Second Wind.

This one seems appropriate. Fair winds and calm seas, sailor.
