re: A pitcher hasn’t pitched 250 innings in 14 years. That's wild.
That has a lot more to do with guys throwing harder than ever, on average, vs innings pitched.
This, and it’s what the teams want, they want a 110-mph arm on every pitch of every game and they’ll use as many arms as it takes to ensure that, It of course ruins the entertainment valu...

And let me add something else about what I said about "game moments." It's not directly about pitching usage, but I stand by my comment that the way the game in general is played today fuels all this ... every batter is trying to hit the ball to Uranus on every pitch, which makes teams want a 110-mp...

We are way more in agreement than disagreement and I liked your reply to me. The focus on spin rate is idiotic, the human arm isn't made to do some of those things.
I mentioned Ryan in particular because the OP mentioned him specifically and for the last week I've seen 37 Facebook memes a day abo...

It will never happen ever again. That was then, this is now. And I don't romanticize what was, for everyone who survived like Ryan, there were four others who ended up on the junk heap. Ryan should not be held up as the standard, he was an absolute freak of nature.
The basic problem is the nature...

Things don’t get resolved in real life as quickly as they do on TV. This will be resolved to everyone’s satisfaction in due time. Neither party wants this hanging around, trust me. It does neither of them any good. ...

It will at the end of the day be addressed to everyone’s satisfaction. It is in the LMPD’s best interests for this story to go away too. ...

This was just a gigantic cluster f and misunderstanding and miscommunication that will be settled to everyone's satisfaction at the end of the day and everyone will move on.
I have driven into a PGA Championship before with a credentialed car.
I can tell you from experience that it doesn't mat...
What picks and strings do you use?
Posted by InkStainedWretch on 5/4/24 at 4:46 pm
Saw this asked on another dedicated music forum, thought I would toss it out here since there’s a lot of players on this forum, what’s everyone’s strings and picks preferences?
I’ll start:
STRINGS: D’Addario nickel wound 9.5 to 44 on my Tokai Strat; Rotosound pure nickel 12 to 52 on my short s...

I’ve interviewed the guy before. I actually like him in a weird sort of way although you want to check your hand after he shakes it to make sure your fingers are all there.
He is a brilliant coach and has won everywhere he’s been and would likely have won at Pell City but you have to look at your...
re: Albert Breer of SI: How the Falcons, Vikings and Broncos Got Their QBs.....
Posted by InkStainedWretch on 5/1/24 at 10:55 am
The Athletic piece that I referenced earlier that had McCarthy second among the first-round QB picks noted that he would have to step up in a way that he never had to in college, but that he has an unquantifiable “it” factor and is going into a very “user friendly” offensive system in Minnesota. We ...

For the record, The Athletic’s “NFL insider” ranked the QBs taken in the first round as Williams, McCarthy, Daniels, Maye, Penix and Nix. I think that is defensible.
My only issue with people in these discussions is the ones saying Penix is hot garbage and will be a bust. I think he’s going to be...

Steeler I'm not going to talk anti-Penix smack here to you ... as I've said in other posts about this, people dogging his potential is simply from the fact that this is an LSU-centric site and he was the competition to their guy who (rightfully IMO) won the Heisman and they want to keep it going and...
re: Dan Patrick: Penix to throw all spring w/Falcons, then get benched for Cousins for 2 yrs
Posted by InkStainedWretch on 4/30/24 at 2:11 pm
There's no issue IMO with signing Cousins or (big emphasis on the word or) drafting Penix.
Doing the two together is nonsensical, especially for what they paid Cousins....

re: The expanded 12-team College Football Playoff is here — and it already has problems.
Posted by InkStainedWretch on 4/30/24 at 9:02 am
Agreed. But I want to actually see what the thing looks like in reality before condemning it. I just think that college football fans also are the most resistant fans to change of any fan base. And that’s not to say change is automatically good. But it’s inevitable. Nothing in the secular realm on t...

Here’s a novel idea … why don’t we wait to see the thing in action before we pronounce it as the ruination or death of college football?
Flame away, but I think just like with NIL and paying players, the biggest reason fans, and particularly old-school fans, are so arse hurt at this is they haven...

Ronnie had cleaned up his act a bit by the time Gaines joined the band … “That Smell” was a message on one level to Gary Rossington who hadn’t .., and he was so impressed by Gaines’ talent that he brought him into his orbit as a collaborator in a way that he never did with the others. That’s the sad...
