Fantastic movie... cept the ending could have been different...

In the novel and the original version of the movie, Gregory Peck's character gets killed. Test audiences didn't like it so they reshot the ending.

Really??? Didn't know that... Imentioned Dean Jagger, but Peck's performance was top notch... Loved how he stopped and took the last puff of a cig before he went on Base and gave em hell...

I need to do some reading up on the 8th AF for my screenplay... Need more info on Maintenance airbases in England.

Have you read “Masters of the Air”. Great book. Good bit of info on air bases in England, the strategic, tactical, anecdotal stories, …..

And I can tell which one sucked - Fury.

This. I have no idea why this board likes this movie. Just ridiculous and turrible.

I have three excellent recs for you. Films that are rarely mentioned in these war threads.

1. Objective Burma (1943) with Errol Flynn. The charismatic actor gives a great performance here without any over the top heroics. A gritty movie with an engaging story line.

2. Generation War (German 3 part mini series 2013). It follows five young friends beginning in 1941. From their excitement of the future to the reality that war provides. High quality production with some excellent war scenes.

3. Unknown Soldier (Finland 2017), another high quality production that is presented from the point of view of a machine gun company of the Finnish Army during the Continuation War between Finland and the Soviet Union from 1941 to 1944

I have them all on BluRay and the quality on all three, video and sound are excellent.
