Politics, mostly.
Springsteen is iconic but I don't listen to him much any more. I've heard him so many times that I'd rather listen to something else.

The Texas economic miracle is mostly located in those cities cited in the OP. Go to the panhandle or the piney woods and you'll see dying small towns just like in Louisiana....

FWIW I got to know some actual Benedictine monks a while back and they would not be down with this speech. They're the most mellow, nonjudgmental people I've ever been around....
