re: Question to the conservatives here: Do you support forced patriotism?

I dislike self-serving grandstanding. Maybe Landry will still turn out to be better than the former governor from The Hills Have Eyes but as of today I think he's a huge douchebag. I sort of thought that when I voted for but he has cemented it this week.

I admit to not following this closely but I am confused by a lot of the thread. Wasn't it Mulkey's SOP to tack the team to the locker room at the 12 minute before mark? How id that on the players?

I am sure some of you have been on a military base and seen the speed of movement of military members outdoors right before Reveille or Retreat was about to play trying to get across the threshold of a building. Admittedly some of them just didn't want to stand still for a couple of minutes but others had shite to do. I was in lots of staff meetings during one or the other and we kept going with the meeting. It had nothing to do with the patriotism of the company, battalion, or brigade staff we just had a job to do. I don't see anything disrespectful not being on the court if the performance of your job suggests otherwise. I see it the same way if I look up and the camera operators at the game aren't standing with their hand on their heart.

I think you can manufacture outrage anywhere you like. I am a bit of a stickler for the Flag code but I don't use it to see disrespect everywhere. My neighbor lets his flag go too long before replacing it it gets a little tattered on the edges. While it being a breach of the Flag code I don't see it as disrespectful or lack of patriotism because I know him and he IS flying the flag. If Mulkey sees those 12 minutes as important time in the locker room for her and her team to perform at their best I see zero disrespect. Inferring reasons beyond what she has stated are just an attempt to manufacture outrage. Throwing people under the bus like I feel the governor has done in an effort to make political points with certain people is childish in my view. Trying to push this down from the coach to the players is less childish and more nefarious.

Swearing an allegiance to the federal government by any private citizen, especially children, goes against everything this country was meant to be.


Military personnel and elected officials swear an oath to defend the constitution, not the government, not a pledge.

I do believe in forced respectful conduct, such as at a wedding, funeral, library, movie, church service, play, grocery stores and restaurants, most public events, and certain other venues, including ones in which the flag is presented or the national anthem is performed.

You have free speech, and you have the right to assemble peaceably. Bad conduct is not peaceable. You can say what you want, but if you don't do it peaceably you can be removed or arrested, especially in a venue that people paid admission to attend, and even if you paid admission if you are disrupting it for others.

You could extend it out, it's not a one size fits all situations. I think the anthem thing with LSU might be overblown. I don't know about basketball, but at least in the college football games I go to the players are never on the field during the anthem. It might be that LSU basketball is like that but Iowa basketball isn't, and this thing is totally blown out of proportion. On the other hand, I think it is totally reasonable for a school to expect their athletes to behave a certain way in public, and punish them if they don't.

No, and I don't know why any conservative would. We were against government forcing shite on us during covid so why the frick would wr cheer the government forcing something on people??

Be the party of fricking freedom. Not freedom when it suites and authoritarian when it feels good
