No surprise at all that Lake Charles screwed that up. This place is a dump for a reason.

To play in the Blackham Coliseum

They'll be 20 people in there.

People are fricking PISSED about this.

I'm curious if KPLC does any actual investigation into this (I have doubts)

There’s 2 sides to every story, but if what the AFL is claiming that the LC Event Center people were too difficult to deal with shame on them.

Everyone I know in Lafayette is waking up to this news kind of surprised especially since it's a week away from kickoff. Cool I guess.

The City/management company respond

quote:

Gene Thibodeaux, Attorney and Spokesperson for ASM, offers the following statement on behalf of ASM:

ASM is an internationally recognized company with a long track record of success in the management of arenas and event centers around the world. Working with the City of Lake Charles, ASM did everything in its power to make the inaugural season for the Louisiana Voodoo a reality for Lake Charles. The AFL signed and agreed to lease terms that required the team to provide lease payments, insurance certificates, and other functions in connection with their use of Lake Charles Event Center. Ultimately, the Arena Football League (AFL) did not pay their rent, nor did they provide a certificate of insurance as outlined in the executed contract, leading to the contract’s termination. The City and ASM would have been irresponsible in protecting the taxpayers’ best interest had they allowed the team to host any games at the Lake Charles Event Center without paying rent or providing a certificate of insurance.

Mayor:

quote:

The City agrees with the decision to require Event Center tenants to pay their rent and provide certificates of insurance.

Visit Lake Charles:

quote:

We support the City and ASM in their decision to require any tenant to pay their rent and provide certificates of insurance.

This is the first time I hear of the existence of this team (or at least this version if it is affiliated with the New Orleans Voodoo from days of old).

Why are they missed? The VooDoo just left a farm town and ended up in Louisiana’s fourth biggest market.

Apparently The Voodoo thinks someone is difficult to deal with when they want free rent and no liability, they haven't refuted this yet so I would assume its close to the truth.

The way they had all the equipment loaded up and basically in Lafayette the minute the press release was made public says a lot.

The question now becomes, has the VooDoo organization provided some form of rent guarantee and certificates of insurance to Blackham Coliseum?
