A bigger problem is people wanting to keep up with the Jones. My parents (WWII) raised 8 kids in an 1100 sq ft. house and it never seemed like it was too small. People have too much JUNK instead of cash. I have a 2600 sq ft home and now that the kids are gone it’s too damn big. I now realize it was all a waste of money even though I dont accumulate JUNK. But of course the wife does as is the norm.

Notice your appeal to a generation that well before now.

Standards of living, minus the various retail luxuries like cell phones and laptops, are falling.

Housing, healthcare, automobiles, food, and energy are up across the board.

Almost everything referenced as "proof" of better economic conditions is in technology (not medical technology) or entertainment. There's no disputing this.

This should not be an expectation as the "norm". 1100 sq ft is not comfortable for a family of 10. I don't care how dishonest with yourself you are about it.

I will agree with this,but...

I'm not sure we want to say that we want the next generation to live exactly like we did.

If we aren't doing things to make them progressively better. Then what is the point or the goal for the next generation?

This is whete these sorts of generational battles raise the problem. It's a reason the boomers are so selfish.

So your goal was to make sure the next generation can't be any better off than you? And they deserve it?
