It's been a while since I visited, and this trip is long overdue. In the past, I've posted the food report after the trip was done. But someone on TD((kudos to him) showed me how to use post images directly from my phone so I figure posting as I go. This way you guys can have your inputs and questions.

Usually when people post where they are visiting, they ask for recommendations. But since most of you haven't been to VN, I'm asking you guys what you want to me to cover.

Here are a few things I plan to do:

1. No pho - I think everyone knows about pho that it doesn't need any attention.

2. Try 30 different banh mi

3. $20 food challenge

4. Sweets (mostly che)

5. Try 10 new items

6. Breakfast items (I may post this in WFDT since there is a 12 hour difference)

7. Try American food and chains to see what are the differences vs here

I just hope that the thread won't be all disorganized since I'm posting as I go.

That would actually be very cool. Always heard they have some very different items in asian countries with our big fast food places.

Details? I figured everything was under 20 bucks

Portion sizes are supposed to be vastly different. I remember years ago seeing that in Europe, our "small" was closer to their "large".

Special McDonald's menu items from around the world

Wait a fricking minute tell me. This would be ten times easier than uploading to a host site.

If you don't eat a Scorpion Skewer, this thread is shite.

Do a 'Lau' (hot pot) and ask for the side of mam tom (fermented shrimp paste.) It's like their sour cream - unappetizing by itself, but adds a depth of flavor.

Depend on if you are touring the touristy area or venture out to the good area. It's good to hire a driver for the day and explore on your own. They can take you everywhere for the whole day for about $2M VN dollars = roughly .........$90

Oddball stuff I had there were silk worms, braised pig brain, and duck embryo egg. The duck embryo was the hardest to eat, but it tasted good.

I can attest that a Popeyes biscuit tastes the same in Hanoi as it does in Louisiana.
