re: Exploring the food culture in Vietnam beyond pho
Posted by PeteRose on 5/17/24 at 9:22 pm
Decided for a 15 min solo walk for breakfast this morning. Upon crossing the street just outside my hotel, a random elder man in his 60s, sitting on his motorbike looked at me and asked if I needed a ride. In Vietnam, the lower class people will do all kinds of side hustles on the streets as appo...

Leg bones(which is what I think they are in the Asian freezer section) are going to give you a good broth. About the oxtails, I would add them to the final 4.5 hours or so to the broth. That’s the time that it takes them to be tender and you can eat them(they are real good). If you add them too ...

A few things to come to mind:
1. Great effort in putting in the hard work and time to learn to make a new dish especially a monumental one with Pho.
2. You don’t have to simmer the broth for 24 hrs like some of these YouTube videos. 8 hrs is enough.
3. You don’t have to roast the bone...

Oh, they’ll be plenty chances for breakfast.
For dinner we went out to a restaurant called “Bep Me In”. This is also on the Bib Gormand list. I don’t want to give the impression that I’m just hitting Michelin places but this place is a 30 second walk from the hotel so we decided to hit it...

For lunch, I’m trying is Com Tam Ba Ghien. This place is on the Bib Gourmand Michelin food guide. Most people know of the Michelin star system. But the Bib Gourmand is a poor man’s version of that system, offering good food for an affordable price.
Com Tam(broken rice) was historically cons...
Exploring the food culture in Vietnam beyond pho

Let the adventure begin.
Landed a Saigon(Ho Chi Minh today) this morning. The good thing about traveling to Vietnam is that once you’ve stepped your foot in the country, you’re officially a millionaire. With the exchange rate of 1 usd to 25,400 vnd(Vietnam dong), all you need is 40 usd to...

It’s really irrelevant if you like him or not. For Someone who has played basketball at a high level for a long time and has status for being an nba expert analyst, it’s a bad look. If your words can’t be taken seriously...

A lot people in this thread have a right at us government to be angry that veterans were exposed to agent orange. But the damage that has done most and still doing(to a small degree) is the impact it has on Vietnamese infant born.
