There is no such thing as “Deleted” on ze Interwebs:
So you baws and babes are gonna wanna double check for those dick pics and flashing for beads shots you thought you had deleted.

There are concerning reports on Reddit that Apple's latest iOS 17.5 update has introduced a bug that causes old photos that were deleted – in some cases years ago – to reappear in users' photo libraries
After updating their iPhone, one user said they were shocked to find old NSFW photos that they deleted in 2021 suddenly showing up in photos marked as recently uploaded to iCloud. Other users have also chimed in with similar stories. "Same here," said one Redditor. "I have four pics from 2010 that keep reappearing as the latest pics uploaded to iCloud. I have deleted them repeatedly."
"Same thing happened to me," replied another user. "Six photos from different times, all I have deleted. Some I had deleted in 2023." More reports have been trickling in overnight. One said: "I had a random photo from a concert taken on my Canon camera reappear in my phone library, and it showed up as if it was added today."

This was always a risk inherent in backing up your data to the iClowd.

Pro tip:
Don't take the naughty bits pictures with a phone. Use an actual camera.

In 17ios try to copy subject in a NSFW image in Photos (tap & hold process to copy person without background).
Then crop photo to just person’s face and then try.
It knows…

I had an iPad that I was using as a monitor in a tractor so I deleted everything on it before letting the driver use it. It asked me if I was sure I wanted all photos deleted because they could not be retrieved. I said yes because I thought it was just deleting them from that IPad. It deleted my entire ICloud account on all devices. Called apple support and they said the pictures were gone forever. Asked to speak to a supervisor and explained what had happened and he said he could retrieve the files. He restored every picture to my other devices in about 1 hour.

For sure…never have but one (recent) iPhone or IPad backup.
Just ask Hunter Biden. Most of his “laptop” stuff was actually old iCloud backups.

I never was convinced any photos you deleted from your phone or computer went into a fire and cremated. They have servers collecting them. So does Google/Android.
