No I am in Nola. It’s a front coming down. Did not know if this system gets mixed in.

New weather buzzword. This was a ‘hook echo’.

That’s been a weather term forever

Any idea where that is?
KHOU showed it earlier and said Cypress but they weren’t specific

“Hook echo” has been a weather term for a long time. Basically since radar started being used to spot storms. A hook echo on radar reflectivity indicates where the area of rotation is in a thunderstorm.
Classic example of a “hook echo” here. At the bottom of the hook in this image is where there was a tornado (in this case the extremely violent Tuscaloosa-Birmingham EF-4 tornado of April 27, 2011).

Was it just a storm? High winds? Tornado?
Strong line of storms that had 70+ mph straight line winds. There may have been a tornado in there at some point, as well, but the straight line wind damage is probably enough that it would be hard to differentiate.

Long term effects. Centerpoint has lots of towers down. Cypress area and downtown took a beating.
Lot of baws on here prob affected.

Tornado video was sent to my wife (no pics) from her friend in the cypress area that was stuck out in this shite

I think what we’ve seen in Houston tonight is a good example of why people should always pay attention to severe thunderstorm warnings. Yes, there was a tornado warning, but much of the damage in the area is probably from 70+ mph straight line winds rather than from a tornado. Severe level straight line winds are nothing to scoff at.

Is anyone having luck with the center point outage tracker? It won’t load anything for me.

Could a weather expert explain where the energy is coming from for these strong straight line storms?

It came through St George a couple hours ago. Wasn’t as bad as predicted.
