So, leaving them in a dysfunctional public school is going to help them?

What has the literature said about kids who experience trauma due to their home lives switching schools? Does changing schools help them?

No
Yes, it is. The most an average taxpayer in LA might pay in taxes that goes to public schools is, generously, $1500 per year. One voucher is what, $5600 or more per year. There are 12 years of education. Multiple that times the number of kids you have and you are being given far more money by the government than you put in. HANDOUT.

My real life isn't dependent on whether or not someone takes me seriously on this message board. I asked a simple question.

Why is it that Dunham, Episcopal, St. Joseph's Academy, Parkview Baptist, U High, and Catholic, don't accept school vouchers?

But they’re not communists. It’s the others who are.

I would prefer a tax credit for tuition payments.

Like I said earlier, "conservatives" like their handouts too.

If the tax credit isn't at least equivalent to what someone pays in taxes (but doesn't use) toward the public school system, then the credit won't be worth much.

I pay around $26k a year in tuition. I think a tax credit would be beneficial.

Your personal tax dollars aren’t spent on my kids was my point. I really don’t care where you live.

Are you saying Louisiana receives no Federal funding for public schools?

I went to public school through 7th. Private through 12th.

There was no comparison. The private education was substantially better. The teachers were better, the culture was better, and the campus was safer. My experiences are my own, but I’m certain the VAST majority of adults who have experienced both would agree.

I never attended public school until LSU.

I taught public elementary school and I went to private elementary school. The culture and academics of the public elementary schools I taught at were superior to the catholic elementary school I attended.

I had a great and rigorous private high school experience and plan to send my kids to private school once they enter middle school.

We are very happy with their public elementary school experiences.

good for you. I got jumped a few times, was exposed to drugs, and was once locked in a gym with 100 other kids as it was set on fire from the inside. And this was in a low-crime, rural community. public school is a gamble to make with your kids. I'm glad you got lucky.

My local public school spends 13K per year. I don’t know their stats but imagine it’s not even close.
So if somehow the public school could reduce their costs by $13,000 for each voucher to send a kid to private school for $7,000 it would be a bargain. I guess they need the private school types to improve test scores. Plus, they have no incentive to actually reduce costs. In Mississippi, we could save a running ton of money just by consolidating school districts. We have way too many with extreme administrative overhead.

I have a Granddaughter at one good public school in LA.

She's an exceptional student and works at her own pace though. AP classes.

She completed the first 6 years in Alaska, then moved to La. Schools are a joke there compared to Juneau. Our schools focused on the excellent students. LA public schools focus on the lower achievers.

Of course not. Many are. Just not you.
