Who was still living at the mother’s house; your wife, the cat, or both? Why was the cat or wife living with the mother?

We weren’t married yet and my wife and the cat were still living at her mom’s house.

Why did they kill the cat?

Why was your wife's cat living at her Mom's and not with your wife?

Who was taking care of the cat at her Mom's?

They’re claiming that they just let her go in a field.
So their justification for endangering a defenseless animal (who is also a beloved pet) was someone saying something mean? And the family is ok with this?

Who is the other SIL and why did she help? How did you and the wife find out what happened?

The two SILs are best friends. Since one of them was offended, the other one automatically became offended along with her and went along with her bullshite and psychopathic behavior.

Actually, it wasn’t even something mean. It was the truth and my wife was exactly right. Also, her twin brother asked for her opinion so she gave it to him.

It’s complete bullshite and I’m sick and tired of her family’s BS. I Want us to stay away for a long time.

I doubt drowning.

Who is saying she should just let it go? Her parents?

I am not going to be around psychos. And absolutely would not let my kids be around them.

Did the SILs actually admit that they got rid of the cat because of something your wife said?

I would be so ugly those women that they wouldn't be gaslighting my wife or myself to go to any function. Your wife on the other hand should go ahead and catch an assault charge from them. They deserve it.

All that should really matter is they admitted to getting rid of the cat, their reasoning shouldn’t mean anything

No. They’re not admitting it but that’s when all of this shite started and they started treating my wife badly, We put 2 and 2 together.

One of the SILs admitted what she did and ratted out the other one. The one who married my wife’s twin brother is admitting that she was in the car but denying that she was a part of this. She says she didn’t know the cat was in the car and that it was all the other SIL’s doing, which is a bullshite lie because that cat meowed loudly constantly anytime she was in a car.

Agreed MS. People with no regard to animals, especially pets have no regard for life other than their own. There is a reason sociopaths start out killing and harming animals and pets. Someone who would intentionally kill a pet would 100% harm your child 'accidentally'. It sucks for your wife and won't be easy, but as long as her family is on the SIL side and is victim blaming and not apologizing then what is best for her and your life is to cut them out. Absolute ghost. If/when they realize how absolutely psychotic they are being they can put in the effort to make amends and apologize.

We would if we had written evidence or a recording of them admitting to it. All we have is a verbal confession that was not recorded.
