How did unionization work out for Detroit?

Been to that city, lately?

Here are some facts about unions

1) they are a monopoly

2) they have a racist history

3) they are anti-consumer, and often fight to restrict the number of workers entering a field, to keep wages high

4) they are anti-freedom (i.e they oppose workers being allowed to opt out of union dues)

5) their one decent use - worker safety - is already encoded in law now, making this obsolete

Look moron, it’s really fisking simple, can you unstop your ears and listen?

They just demonstrated you ARE free to do so. You are equally free not to be morons and NOT want one.

The workers decided they don’t want the union. Take it up with them.

Why are auto workers so special?

Auto workers(and union workers in general) are so special(as you say) because they negotiate as a group, which automatically gives them more negotiating power than a single worker who has relatively little negotiating power.

It’s fine if you are anti-union(I generally am, too) but I never understand why you guys can’t just accept that group-bargaining results in better wages/benefits…it’s statistically proven at this point in time.

Yo, numb nuts. They were able and voted against it. They seem to be happy with their collective bargaining without adding a layer of union dues to do their bidding. A good way to force Mercedes to Mexico with unionization.

Because if you're an ambitious guy, youre fricking yourself in a union.
Unions protect those who would otherwise be at McDonald's.

Business and capital tend to take the path of least resistance.
That is why auto plants started opening in the south. To get away from the smothering resistance that comes with unionized workforces. They create unsustainable economic burdens for business with outrageous wage and benefit requirements and constant bickering, creating undue negotiating burdens for business.

Consequently, business’ move to states or countries that provide less resistance. That creates the exact opposite effect that the unions want- un employment.

Unions are unnecessary.
There are enough federal and state regulations today to give workers rights and provide safe workplaces. There’s a minimum wage.

Unions serve to serve themselves. Unions want power. They get that by driving a wedge between the employer and the employee to try to make themselves more important.

Because seniority rewards the lazy.

Democrats hate the idea of merit. They love seniority. "Its their turn."

This isn’t the 20’s…we have plenty of attorneys ready to sue if conditions are unsafe. And nobody’s forcing people to work there…if you don’t like the pay or benefits then quit.

WTF is wrong with you?
