I used to love Alladin's Castle at the Acadiana Mall.

Sad but great time to get some deals. Had the store in my area close and got clothes 80% off, can't beat that

Is there 2 malls in Lafayette like there is in BR?

I don't know if Northgate is still open or not. Honestly all the shopping in Lafayette has seemed to gravitate more to the shopping areas like the one near Cosco on Ambassador, the shopping area around whole foods/target, and of course river ranch. It does suck to see Sears leave though, only because I did like their auto center for tires and Diehard batteries

North gate is still open. Why? Not sure. It's just a big building for a barbershop, Footlocker, and Urban Trendz.

Do they even have any anchors left? I know they had a Stage or Kohls one last time I drove past it in 2014 or 2015, but that seemed like that was it.

I want to say Stage closed last year but I'm not entirely sure. It was the last one standing.

Speaking of Northgate, I remember they used to have a little restaurant that sold some of the best stuffed bread in Acadiana. Forgot the name of it, but man I miss it

Sears going the way of Monkey Ward.

Ah, the days of a good fap to the bra/panties section of the 10 lb. Sears catalog.

Anything outside of major metro areas(Houston) or tourist areas (New Orleans) malls are dying.

Lafayette population isn't going to support a mall in 15 years. Neither will Baton Rouge

see a lot of entire malls closing in the next decade. I rarely go to one anymore.

In Louisiana where so many days are either hot, rainy or even cold, malls make perfect sense unlike those stupid new "walking malls" or whatever they're called.

If I was dictator I would mandate that the big/best stores be located in malls.
If.

Yeah I prefer the indoors during the summer but I just don't go much anymore. The last few times I've been in the mall it was to go grab something to eat in the food court and then leave.

Lol @ people eulogizing the Sears at the mall.

Real talk, the only thing that store was good for was that it was a convenient entry and exit points to the rest of the mall. I'm thinking of all the times I've been to the Acadiana Mall, and I've always entered through that store

Are they going to have a sale? I could use some new tools.

I'm going to a local place for that kind of stuff. Not a mall

I don't fault you for it, but the mall is the "local place" for millions upon millions of Americans. The closest Apple store to my house (3rd party or real) is in a mall. There are a ton of menswear (suits, jackets, etc.) brands you can't get at any smaller shop around here.

It's probably pretty dependent on anchors and major retailers. Most malls anchored by a Sears and JC Penneys aren't going to interest Apple or Sur La Table or whatever. But consolidated malls surrounding big urban areas will continue to be viable.

The Mall at Barnes Crossing is Northeast Mississippi’s premier shopping destination, serving an average of 12 million shoppers annually.

Tupelo with a population of 35,000 isn't exactly a major metro area or tourist destination
