Drop her off at the stadium and don't look back. You'll thank me later.

Yep, save the money and go to Tennessee. Don't go to UF.

It's a very forgettable place for tailgating, and I was disappointed by the environment inside the Swamp, but if I lived in Florida and couldn't make it to any other LSU games during the season, I'd return. Also, Satchel's pizza is pretty good (but sadly not near campus/stadium).

I've seen the campus police make visiting fans (obviously LSU) tents and tailgates because they were "in the wrong areas." No ropes up, no signs saying "no tailgating,” nothing at all.

This is true.

I had just turned 21 and was walking down the sidewalk with a girl from one "designated tailgate area" to another.

I got jerked from behind by cop who says "So you think you are going to walk down the street drinking that beer?"

To which I replied "Ummm ... Yes??"

That's when he cuffed both of us and sat us on the sidewalk for an open container violation. He said if we didn't produce a Florida address for them to send the citation to that he would take us both to jail. Luckily we were staying with some friends and were able to use their address.

And to top it off, five years later I got rejected for an apartment because the background check said I had a "felony open container violation" in Alachua County Florida. I had to spend weeks going back and forth with them to get it properly downgraded to a misdemeanor.

frick you Gainesville.

Lot of jorts. Also, beware of the Gestapo working as campus police if you walk around with a drink.

WTF? That shithole never will get my money. So what are the shitty laws there? can only drink if you are NOT holding a open bottle or can? Only in a cup? I hate places like that. Isn't starkvegas similar?

piece of advice - don't be a dick to a cop. Will make your life easier.

I've been to this game in Gainesville for 15 years. Wearing purple every time. Never been hassled a single time. Sure, I get some trash talk from drunk Gator fans, but that happens everywhere.

Just don't be a tool and it'll all be good.

What I think I learned is that you can only drink in designated areas and you can only drink out of a cup. I did not know this at the time and would have happily complied had the officer just told me what I needed to do.

I think most Florida fans just tailgate in bars and the cops generally try to discourage tailgating/drinking on campus, especially by visiting fans.

frick off for insinuating that I was "a tool" or a dick to the cop, because I wasn't.

I wasn't drunk. We had just gotten out there. We parked and went to see some friends who were parked down the street. I was genuinely confused when he stopped us. That's why I said what I did. I'd like to see your reaction if someone spun you around and got in your face.

I have tailgated at nine SEC campuses and never had any altercation with any police office. I've never been kicked out of a game. I've only had one other interaction with the police in my entire life. This is a very memorable event to me.

ETA: The girl I was with was bawling tears asking "What did we do?" because we were completely lost.

you can drink anywhere on campus. My guess is you were walking on the sidewalk on university Ave, which they will ticket you for

1. Don't drink on the sidewalk on bar side (as opposed to the campus side) of University Avenue.

2. Don't drink in the stadium. I have seen the UFCP tap an LSU fan on the shoulder, take his cup and smell it, and escort him out of the stadium. This fan wasn't causing any trouble to warrant police doing what they did.

3. Drink out of a plastic cup on campus.

Do these three things and you should be fine.

FYI, Florida fans are assholes. Last time I was there, a UF student hit and run my rental car. A Good Samaritan got her plate #.

I agree with Birdman. Went to the game in '98 after we beat them in '97. They were self entitled pricks and obnoxious.

After they beat us, there was a knucklecheck outside the stadium afterwards with two of us and three of them.

Nothing happened though.

Never been, but read many horror stories on here. I'd sell those tickets.

Instead of converting the girl, post her drunken meltdown online after we beat them in 8 days.
