Yeah, no way is JJ going to be the man this season. It's between Lee & Hatch, and I think it's Lee.
In fact, I'm thinking that lee is going to be a pleasant surprise this year. We shall see.

Yeah, we should start a QB who doesn't know the playbook and needs some more work in the weight-room as well as working on his delivery...
i'm just playing the devil's advocate. I, for one, am very excited to see Lee become our starter and be a 4-year starter for us.
But, how do you know that what you've said disqualifies him from being the best option for us at QB? I know it is a long shot. But, hey, it could happen.

He's such a perfectly constructed QB specimen for our offense. I'm just worried that his errant passing and poor mechanics will potentially leave him being the next Lester Ricard. RS will come in ready to go.
It's still funny reading all these "expert-like" opinions. His errant passing and poor mechanics will make him the next Lester Ricard? You are basing this off of ONE scrimmage that he struggled in? If he did great throwing in the scrimmage, you wouldn't make one comment about his mechanics, or lack of mechanics. Isn't it possible that he struggled because he is a FRESHMAN and he lacks the experience of college defenses and the speed of the game?
Also, his errant passing - is this based only on the scrimmage as well? All through training camp, the word was that he was throwing the best in drills. So you must be basing all opinions on one scrimmage. Yeah, I doubt a true freshman would be nervous in one of his first full scrimmages.
And just like others have stated on this board before. Go ahead and annoint RS with the keys to the offense before he even takes a snap for his HIGH SCHOOL in his senior year. Do you really think that RS can throw it more accurately than JJ? If you think so, then go look at their highlight videos when they were both juniors in high school. It wasn't even close.

I too don't think JJ is the answer from day 1, but I also don't think it is right to call him the next Lester Ricard this early. I think it is extremely comical and premature.

Lester's problem was that he played in a crappy system for a QB in High School. JJ played in a pass happy offensive system at Desty. JJ will be a solid QB one day for the Tigers, but for the next couple I years I see Lee as being the guy.

Jordan Jefferson = Lester Ricard...
We'll all forget him when Russ Sheppard steps on campus. Tulane will need a QB for 2010.

RS has the arm of JR, accuracy of Tom Brady, and the speed of TH. Oh yeah, and he can walk on water too.

Jarett Lee looked solid at the gridiron scrimmage. He had numerous passes put in perfectly to the receivers. Hatch didn't get much play time.
JJ's mechanics are not solid yet. He will be a great qb once it gets fixed though. He has good speed and vision.

Once again if you saw what kind of offensive system Lester played in at Amite you would know why he couldn't make it at LSU. He never read a defense in the 4 years he played in Amite. He said hike faked two handoffs and threw it deep to the streaking WR. Thats the just of all his passing plays in high school.

This guy has obviously never seen Jefferson's mechanics. The absolute worst thing that could happen for the kid is to be thrown into the fire early and ruin any confidence he could have. He needs to make up a lot of ground on the practice field with his release point and footwork.
Post of the day. Hatch and Lee should rotate on a situational basis, Jefferson should get some experience this season, however. I don't think redshirting him is in the teams best interest. The future may be Shepherd and Lee, I dunno. But at this point no one does. Lee may turn out to be the very capable, Hatch could be productive in short yardage situations. I do think it's beneficial to get Jefferson some playing time IMO.

While I agree that Jefferson definitely isn't ready, I don't think his mechanics are the major drawback or were the cause of his problems Saturday. He just needs experience in the offense. He threw into coverage multiple times, when you do that it doesn't matter how pretty or how ugly your delivery is.
Lee will be the man this year, and Jefferson will be just fine.

I am not sure if I like this idea in general. Sure a kid could get lots of reps and experience. However, depending on how that first rough year or years go, he may never reach his potential if he gets shaken up alot.

Not quite. I've been following him for awhile.

I'm not annoiting RS with anything, but we've all seen him run.
What i'm saying is that if Lee is as good as i think he will be, JJ's saving grace will have to be his running. However, lets face it, few QB's will ever be able to match RS's running ability. He's the closest thing to a Percy Harvin at QB's we've seen....maybe even more elusive. His passing is not better than JJ's now, but like i said, that isn't the point. We HAVE a passing QB in Lee. What we NEED is to develope a really good runner. I think Hatch and JJ will battle it out for that job this year.

Because he doesn't know the playbook.

are you retated.
RS is a more polished passer to this point in his HS career. Jefferson broke his wrist the 5th game of his junior year, he was basically an unkown recruit at this time last year. so how do you you figure it "wasnt even close." he didnt become a good passer till his senior season.
Plus he's ten times more electric as a runner. very comparable to percy harvin of florida.
RS is more distinguished as a passer to this point than terrell pryor accordinding to most scouting reports.

Jordan Jefferson will not play this year. I have never seen him play in person but have read and seen every video (that I know of) of his on the internet. He is a classic, raw athletic QB. Which leads to this question – odds are either Hatch-ling or J. Lee will establish themselves somewhat this year and with Russ coming on board next year – When does Jordan Jefferson get his chance?
As for geauxwarrior12’s post… Lester Ricard could’ve played at LSU if he wasn’t backing up Matt Mauck and J. Russell/Matt Flynn coming on board. The kid’s still bouncing around the NFL, which is way longer than Marcus Randall (with all his starts) did. 99% if High School passers can't read a defense on a college level. Being a polished high school passer doesn’t guarantee a lot, look at the Evangel boys and how well they did with all that hype…

If you’re going to start an inexperienced quarterback, you might as well give the reins to the most talented one.

I see JJ in a RP type role for the next two years, if he gets in at all this year. Probably the next 3 if Lee lives up to the hype.
