This is an under appreciated aspect of the whole thing. Paying a portal transfer that much money then putting him in the room with the rest of your team creates a whole new can of worms.

Man, I appreciate you trying to bring logic and sanity to the board, but it's futile. It's an echo chamber with so many people on here.

people getting mad at BK for not giving in to these demands are foolish. he is going to build through the HS ranks, now that he has the D side shored up. and he'll use the portal for marquee guys when needed.

Wrong! We are mad because this is BK's third year and there is no excuse for our DT group to be this weak. BK is responsible for the management of the ENTIRE team not just the offense! He hired those coaches. He let House run off a very good DLine coach and hire a below average replacement. Now he's starting all over in year three. That isn't good enough!

At the end of the day you can spend a ton on one player that may or may not make a difference. But what happens if that one player tears an acl in fall practice and never contributes. Not to mention the domino effect it has when other players find out what he was paid and decide they need to renegotiate. The system clearly is flawed and I would like a better defensive line situation as much as anyone but I'm not a fan of over paying for marginal players because we missed in recruiting. We have the staff capable of recruiting now.

He’s not completely in the clear. No doubt the blame starts and stops with him. But realistically he had DL coach leave. The repayment falls ill and wasn’t coaching or recruiting. You think we’re gonna land top notch DL’s in thst capacity? Realistic expectations. Not making excuses. He the defense blows and we lose 3 games BK is where it starts and stops. But also tsk everything into consideration that has happened the last 2 calendar years and it lends some perspective to why we’re where we’re at on the at side. And he addressed it in the off-season.

So, he left didn’t he? And the replacement got sick. But I’m sure you would have had the DL and staff just rolling. Oh, you’re not paid to do that? Again he fixed it. Jury is still out on this staff but I think I’m time we’ll all be pleased on thst side of the ball.

You've painted a purdy picture but, lets hope it doesn't rain. Bo has his work cut out for him. That 3 year expectation they had will turn into 6.

If you can't get some 3rd down stops, it doesn't matter how many points the O scores.

It starts up front and, it's a win now fan base.

Thanks for completing missing the whole point of this thread.

The guys in the portal were decent players, not great.

So lmk if you want to pay a kid $700,000+ to cut the rushing yards from 150 to 130

You are the one missing the "point". I'll spell it out for you. In year 3 of a rebuild you should never be in a situation to have to overpay at any position.

That last part is so important. Don't reset the market for guys that aren't the cream of the crop.

Also, people need to have a little bit of faith in Baker, Peoples and Bo - not saying they're going to spin shite into gold, but if you look at Sweat and Murphy from 2022 to 2023, they progressed immensely.

Same for Robinson and Josh Landry at Mizzou - Baker and Peoples helped those guys turn a big time corner.

So sure, we're still thin there but expect a lot of improvement from what we have between now and the Southern Cal game, and more improvement as the season goes along.

In December, everyone thought Wingo and Smith were staying. We ponied up big NIL deals to bring them back, yet they still chose the NFL.

Not saying the staff isn’t to blame for the current situation, but there have been a string of unfortunate events that have led us to where we are now.

Insider or not, we just missed out on a guy we need more than any other player

You can use an example from the real world: if you have a small to mid-size business and you raised your entry level wage to $20 hour, what about the other employees that have been there for awhile and are not making that much or just a little more? You have to adjust everyone proportionally.
Same inside college football, particularly with the proven players.

That's a completely insane comment, so short-sighted, and wreaks of desperation. That's like telling a girl you've been with on a couple dates that you can't live without her....

Seeing those numbers tossed around I get it, don’t upset the balance of the team money wise. This is all on Kelly, LSU shouldn’t be in the position of desperation. This was a problem 2 years ago but it was just assumed he would address it at some point. You don’t wait until the last portal window to address it, everyone knows that their price just went up. Kelly gets kudos for the offense, but he has failed so far on defense.
