The fact that this NIL deal for Williams got too rich for Texas of all teams should tell you all you need to know.

Yeah, that's a really good point. But neither OU or UT is in as bad of a position at DT as we are, so who should've been making sure they came with the highest offer?

I get both sides of the argument. Giving a kid you don't even think is elite a massive pay day could set a precedent for future transfers, and stir up problems with current players and their compensation.

At the same time, if you are as depleted as we are at the position, maybe there shouldn't be a limit in extenuating circumstances?

BK said LSU is not going to sign players who are just looking for $$$. He is right on this point. When the chips are down and the game is on the line the $$$ players are still playing for themselves. OU paid a ton of money for an above average DT.

Then let’s not make it a habit of having to rely on the Spring portal.

Exactly, these guys are praising BK for not overspending. NO shite. None of us want them to overpay for these average (at best) DT's.

Mmm, I think you got that backwards. Nobody was really expecting him to be all SEC, much less an All American.

People tend to get it backwards pretty often.

I’m not sweating it. Nothing like over paying for mediocrity and souring the entire unit.

LSU will be passed up now and in the future because of NIL. We can’t compete

Too late, dawg. That train has left the station, horrifically derailed, the survivors have "reluctantly" consumed the flesh of the dead and collected what supplies they could, trudged out of the wilderness in their tattered clothes and altered sense of humanity, had their tickets replaced and are preparing to board another train.

Possible but this isn't a bullet point to prove it. Texas got outbid also. Are they gonna get left behind?
The possible lies in the fact that regulation is coming or the whole system will crash. These communist daycares can't afford to be wasting 100s of millions building/retaining football rosters yearly when they've got more pressing issues like teaching kids to hate America to pay for.
Seriously though, very few programs can sustain this type of money out. School are paying more for their rosters than the programs are profiting. We are all gonna get left behind if regulation doesn't occur, which it will. These aren't people used to losing money so they'll "fix" the system to work more in their favor. And we will lap it up because we are entertained on Saturdays.

If we do not get two decent DL before the year starts this will be a mediocre year again.

I disagree. I certainly think we need one good two-deep guy. But if we got that we would have Guillory, Washington, the new guy mentioned above, and Jalen Lee. That would be four solid guys. Although none of them are top notch, this would be enough to be fair at DT as long as we don’t have bad injury luck.

And we also have a freshman McKinley coming in who might be good enough to hold down a spot. Godchaux did it as a freshman, and he wasn’t so highly recruited.

Guessing these folks can’t relate, but you are spot on. Bring an engineer right out of college on at $15K/yr more than the engineer that’s worked for you for 3 years. 3 year engineer is going to have their resume circulating the following week. Salary compression is a very big deal, and then bring that into a locker room full of ultra competitive kids that have been hyped for their entire lives, and it’s a thousand times worse.

ETA: and this isn’t to even mention Mom’s, siblings, and handlers, that all want a piece of the take, and it’s gas on a fire.

So, what do we offer the ULM kid? This feels like when Aranda pointed out we had more specialists than LBers. It’s an obvious roster issue. Hopefully will be addressed soon.

I promise you, if LSU matched (he liked LSU much better), then we would have had to give existing star players more. It just wasn’t worth it, so we pulled out.

Overpaying lands you with the type of players that demand that… all things being equal. I’m talking about aggie #1 class type players, and the culture it yields. There are many factors considered when deciding to play or pass.

It’s not that difficult, drop the bag off. Ever since NIL became a thing LSU has sucked at dropping the bag off.

When it was illegal LSU knew how to drop the bag.

Shone Washington will be key, which leaves me nervous. Guillory is what he is to an extent, although the new coaches should make an impact. Washington has the size, but can our staff improve his technique enough? We will find out this fall.
