Sierra knocked his back end out from under him

Definitely Sierra Leone almost knocked Forever Young to the ground. Those two would have easily finished 1st and 2nd if they wouldn't have been pounding against each other down the stretch. Hard to say which one would have won without all of that contact. You could see the Japanese rider losing ability to strike Forever Young with his riding whip to better control his horse.

In the pre race footage of Sierra Leone, that horse always crashes down inside after the last turn. They even said riders can't really control that very well when their horse is determined to lean into one direction.

Because this is Kentucky Derby day, I thought I'd mention this... Ron Turcotte, Secretariat's jockey in the 1973 Triple Crown, was made a paraplegic in 1978 in a racing accident but is still with us today at the age of 82.

Bet $2 WPS on (11) Forever Young. Got me $5.58
I had the 2 and 11 in my box trifecta but no 3. An expert picked it on TwinSpires. Woulda won $556 if I played that extra $3

The next race, I hit the box trifecta (4/2/7) and $2 Win. Cashed out $39 for a profit of $19. Not bad. I had other bets on the derby race

2 should have been taken down........ didn't impact me, so no "horse" in this fight, but that was A LOT of contact and I think the other horse had to check up.

Both horses had to check up pre-stretch… Forever Young in the first half of the race. If Sierra Leone was ever ahead when they made contact he might have been in jeopardy. It would have had to have been much worse though. If clean trips and safety were a priority they wouldn’t allow 20 damn horses in the field.

How about Tyler pushing the horse over with his crop right at the end? He literally pushed his crop into FY’s neck.

The more I watch the replay, the more convinced
I am that without the heavy contact, Japan has their win. His whole hind end slipped to the side once. That’s a tough horse to dig in and refuse to give up his space. I can’t believe it went official so fast.

I also want to say again that fierceness is completely unable to put together two good races in a row.

You made him get squeezed at the break!

Apparently he got hit so hard his rider lost a stirrup and had to basically give himself and his horse a few beats to reset.

The bad feet rumor was apparently true.

I hate now that the Derby has become a Cavalry charge. It's simply cleanest ride wins....the horse least bothered... And that's what happened yesterday.

Cutting back the field means less handle. Churchill ain't never doing that. I don't think it's necessarily the trips, it's many jocks don't have the patience, and are riding horses that have no business being there. That's why the point system sucks. The 17 looked lame before and after and should've been a SCR. Curious to hear Repole excuse, because that horse is rat in person. Tiny little colt that is skinny.

When does Churchill announce the ban extension? The last two years have been extremely profitable. Don’t need the white haired fricker.

Soon I hope. Don't think CD has ever put out the total handle in publication. Could be wrong. Heard McPeek may run the filly in Preakness.

He said no after the derby. I think he thinks she’s better than his derby winner

I know it was a record last year and they said they beat it this year. They definitely released it to show the lack of baffert isn’t hurting business.

Has anyone watched the head on? Looked like the Japanese horse and Sierra Leone duked it out, and it benefited the winner.

Yep. Japanese horse was tough and didn’t give in. I don’t like Tyler pushing into forever young’s neck hard with the crop.

Chad, of course, was playing victim. Bitch, your horse started it. And has a very bad habit of it. And knocked the other horse’s hind end out from under him.
