world champion NBA coach
There's no such thing in the NBA, NFL, MLB, or NHL.

The Trump stuff wasn't a good follow-up to his wife passing. I've always thought his Trump rants had a lot to do with his personal issues and of course the media gets off on folks in the sports sphere hating on Trump. It was a match made in heaven.

I'm no Pop fanboy, but to say his the decline of his teams' results has anything to do with his dislike of a politician is a huuuuge reach.
The people trying to inject politics into a thread about a basketball coach are the ones that politics have broken, not Pop.

Phil Jackson could have been in the same boat in Chicago, but he retired when Jordan retired.
Then waited til he had Kobe and Shaq to come back.
Although Kobe wasn't a known hall of famer yet

Not sure if he deteriorated or always was terrible but I'd go Doc Rivers.

This is very ironic considering no one would bring it up if Pop hadn’t injected politics into basketball in the first place. Y’all really hate when people return the favor on your BS

Politics aside - tons of coaches now are getting starting lineups full of all-stars and absolutely failing time and time again. The one thing Pop and Phil did right is they forced those players to achieve their potential, rather than tear each other apart for stats and personalities and money
The NBA coaching game isn’t about Xs and Os. It’s about leading men and motivating them to work as a team and fulfill their potential. And nobody has been better than Phil and Pop. Kerr may soon be in the same category as well.

Well people are implying that a certain former president’s presidency zapped one of the greatest coach of all time of his knowledge and ability. So… how about everyone go for a quick lap.

I’m not saying that trump has anything to do with his basketball coaching ability… I’m saying that he’s a broken man regardless.
He’s the type that could stump his toe and immediately blame trump.
Not to mention, how many of his assistant hires have been influenced by his politics? Maybe none, maybe all. He made sure to hire a woman. Was she the best available? Who knows.

Becky Hammon ? And it wasn’t political as much as her playing for SA’s wnba team and starting out basically as a volunteer while she rehabbed.
1 whole hire

He's just one of millions of moronic Liberal Americans in this country. That's all.

He used to preach defense. It was one of his main stables during the glory years. They look a lot more like a track team and have since Duncan said so long.

well he just drafted a guy that was the best defensive player in the league as a rookie so i'm sure once they get some pieces around him they'll be pretty solid on that end

I doubt it. Pop gave it up for lent years ago. And how much longer will this guy want to grind away at his advanced age if he had the time for all the pieces to grow up?

They do not play teams from all over the world, just the US

Of course Popovich was great at one time. But he sucks nowadays and I don't know why people refuse to admit it.
We've already seen this with Belichick, Paterno and Bowden. And actually Pop is doing worse than any of those 3 guys. The other guys had middle of the pack teams at the end of their careers, but Popovich's teams have now fallen to literally last place in the Western Conference.
He can't coach anymore and he needs to retire.
As for the politics: that has little to do with his coaching, but he'd seem less foolish expressing his political views if his teams were going better than 22-60.
