Guess this means he’s due for a 16 sack season

Then they bring him back on a team friendly 3 year deal and he gets to be classified as a 1st round pick hit.

I honestly don't think Turner makes this roster if Young isn't on PUP for the start of the season. He has all the makings of a guy you trade for a 7th round pick at cut time.

99.99% had never heard of him. That is why. Knowledge was absent.

Payton Turner is a good player when healthy. He was doing well last offseason until he was once again hurt.

I mean we all knew that was happening. At least when Davenport was occasionally healthy and on the field he would look like a Monster. I can't think of one time i saw Turner in a play and went wow there is something.

We have now spent Three firsts (two on Davenport, one on Turner) 2 2nds Kihaha, and Foskey. and a pretty big busted contract on Junior Gullette to find a serviceable DE on the other side of Jordan and we keep whiffing.

So, a logical conclusion to this is that he would be a real threat to being cut during camp.

I'm not convinced that this front office would be willing to admit its error though and would probably keep him on the roster just to not have to answer the questions.

Kinda puts Cam’s career into perspective. Truly an all-time great.

I think it comes down to Foskey or Turner for the 5th DE spot. You know what you have with Turner. Foskey at least still has a chance to improve.

Hit on Hendrickson, to only let him walk away because you didn't wanna invest in multiple DL and needed money to pay Marcus williams. Oh yeah, you let him walk to.

STUPID.

That is what happens when you draft for need. Same with Davenport. Drafting for need at a late slot or with a weak position that year leads to disasters.

Nah. Drafting for need is fine as long as you pick the best player available at a position of need at the time you pick.

Drafting best player available regardless of position is stupid because the scouting is just too hit or miss and you can end up with a mediocre player at a position that’s already stocked, which adds absolutely no value. Getting an ok but not great player can help you at a position where you have absolutely nothing, but it’s useless at a position that’s strong already.

Drafting is basically a 50/50 game no matter how much information you have on the players. All 32 NFL front offices have shown that. I don’t think the Saints reached because they were drafting for need; it’s because Payton/Loomis/Ireland think they are smarter than everyone else out there and they get too cute and creative with the draft choices.

Fair point. I forgot because maybe the trauma of knowing we really screwed that up hits home too much. Think that was a Sean Payton ego thing to be honest.

rotate an overdrafted DE with another overdrafted DE

well, Turner would have to actually get on the field and play first, to be rotated...

in 3 seasons, he's had a fricking total of 29 tackles and 3 sacks

he's averaging only playing in 5 games per season... i legit forgot he was even on the team last year
