Is there a better option than U-Verse?

There was a topic discussed last year some time when local news stations were unavailable due to contract disputes. Well, looks like all U-verse customers are in the black since around 6pm last night. No channels are working. I guess the Dallas Cowboys loss was too much to handle and someone or something had to ruin it for everyone else.

Someone reported that AT&T said there is no outage but people from coast-to-coast are not able to watch the TV.

In short, what’s a better option than U-Verse, besides going to streaming? We want to avoid streaming as much as possible, although that may not be an option for much longer.

Direct TV Stream.

The TVs get a box so they act like cable.
And you can put it on your phone and watch your tv wherever you are.

You don't have to have these, although they are nice.

You can use regular Roku, Fire Tv or whatever your preferred streaming device is, granted they have to have the DirectTV Stream app available.

I don't currently have UVerse but have had it in the past. Not sure of their current situation but a former ATT coworker buddy of mine told me back then ATT doesn't give a frick about UVerse, it's customers, or what happens to it.

We have YouTube TV now and overall I've been pretty happy about it. Couldn't find the Pels game the other night though. WAFB was broadcasting it on one of their shite channels they don't carry. Other than that...

I dumped DirecTV for YoutubeTV and have been pretty happy. Went from about $170 per month to $50 with two AppleTVs and an old Roku. The $50 per month is only for the first 3. It will go up to $73 in March.

DTV Stream is a good product. Having a box is comforting for someone that needs channels. It takes an adjustment not being able to punch in a number to get to a channel.

Canceled U-verse for Hulu last year. I don’t get Astros on FS1 anymore, but no other regrets.

This. Only reason I chose Fubo over YTTV and others.

Mine is back this morning, but it damn sure went off last night around 10ish. People all over the country were reporting TV outages only, internet and phone service was fine.

If it had still been off this morning I was going to try the YouTbe TV free preview.

Mine is still out in the Harahan area.

When I called them this morning to speak with tech support the computer system said my call couldn’t be completed and disconnected.

I’ve had uverse tv for about 5 years and this is the first issue I’ve had.

Something weird is going on and AT&T isn't wanting to say publicly what it is. This is a random (time wise), widespread outage. They can't handle the volume of calls coming in, and I haven't seen a statement from them.

Oh....and....frick AT&T.

A lot of interesting comments on Down Detector about the outage. Some are worth the read. It was indeed a nationwide outage.

Finally it came back on. But yes, F**K U-verse! AT&T doesn’t own it anymore but they still fix issues. Apparently no one at AT&T wants to take responsibility on what happened.

Thanks everyone on the comments and recommendations.

Mine just came back. This was their Twitter last night:

we’re aware of a temporary U-verse outage caused by inclement weather, are working to restore the service and apologize for the inconvenience.

Ive had YouTube TV for a couple months now and im mixed…. I like the channel selection, but it also seems clunky and glitchy.. i use my iPad as a ‘remote control’ as it were, and it’s a pain in the arse since it disconnects often.. not the picture on my tv, just the connection form the ipad ‘remote’ that i use to change channels etc… if anyone has a better solution - that doesnt involve purchasing additional equipment like a Firestick, Roku, whatever- id be all ears .

We went from standard DirecTV to DirectTV stream abt 6 months ago. The product quality is good for abt half the price and no contract. What I can’t seem to get or understand is how have NBC and DirecTV in the Baton Rouge market been in a disagreement for approaching 18 months…we have not had the channel…is there any end in sight for this dispute?
