Back in April we had a pretty severe storm blow through here with high winds and what sounded like hail (it was 2:00am and the power was out so I couldn’t see it). The next morning we found tons of small tree debris around the yard, a few larger limbs, and two shingles blown off the roof. Once it dried up I walked around the roof and found what I thought to be some hail damage. It wasn’t a whole lot but it was obvious damage scattered around the roof. Definitely not 8+ hits in any given 10x10 foot area, though. I took the liberty of ordering an insurance version hail report for my area and it came back showing no hail in that storm in my area. I haven’t made a claim since having USAA but figured since it’s a weather related claim, why not see what happens?

The adjuster came out and seemed like he was pissed to be there. The whole time he was here he kept telling me what “real” hail damage looks like and said what I had wasn’t. He wasn’t taking any pictures of anything so I pointed out what I believed to be damage and he took pics of those spots to include in t he report. He even wrote on my roof with his chalk “0” on each side and took pics of that to indicate no hail damage.

They wrote me a check for $400 after the 1% deductible for the blown off shingles but the claim rep there actually called me to say that she disagrees with the adjuster’s report because the pictures showed “obvious” hail damage. I didn’t even have to question it, she questioned it on my behalf and ordered a reinspection.

A new adjuster came out, spent 15 minutes on the roof, and left before I could even get a chance to talk to him. This evening I get a message saying I have $20,000 of damage to the roof and the check is in the mail.

It matters who your insurance company is, baws. No way in hell would I have received that kind of treatment with most other companies out there. Anyone else ever have a similar experience with USAA or any other company for that matter? I work in insurance but I seldom see the claims side of things so I am super impressed with USAA’s claim service. Genuinely curious if this is unique to USAA or if anyone has ever had a similar experience with another company.

A brand new roof doesn’t cost that much.

Never had homeowners damage claim with them but have had multiple car accident claims. They've been great every time and have never raised my rates. The accidents were never my fault, but most other companies would have absolutely raised my rates anyways.

IME retired officers are treated like royalty. Enlisted and dependents occasionally get the second tier experience.

shite, I have Progressive. I need to look at switching to USAA. Hell, I might as well refinance my mortgage too. Everything else we have is with USAA.

Farm Bureau paid for my roof and didn’t send a dickhead adjuster. Paid for my AC that crapped
Out during a thunderstorm, and has been excellent with our vehicles. I’d put them up against USAA without hesitation

My roofing division deals with all the major and not so major carriers and it is amazing to hear stories on how differently each company handles claims. What is important for homeowners to know is their claim rests mostly in the hands of the adjuster that comes out. So many don’t know what they are doing so don’t be afraid to demand another adjuster.

USAA is the best customer service. I have never had a bad experience with them. My only gripe is I wish they had brick and mortar banks everywhere.

We had to try 3 times with USAA to get a claim thru. The phone rep would always be very confident, then the adjuster would come out and shoot us down.

We took photos of hail and even saved some in the dang freezer.

We had a roofing company come with a drone, and they took photos and showed damage all over the place. No luck.

Our damn neighbors got a brand new roof using OUR evidence with State Farm.

We tried again after another storm, and got a very pregnant woman with a roofing company to work on our side. The adjuster came out and approved it. It was very frustrating, but in the end it worked out. They actually even threw new gutters in because ours were damaged and undersized, and the vendor was able to combine it into the quote if they did it all at once.

I’ve heard nothing but good things about Farm Bureau.

They've been great for me too. Had a roof claim and another claim after losing several things to a lightning strike. They paid both with no issues.

We had renters insurance during our move back to south Alabama. Anyway, our stuff was in storage in Baldwin county during the hurricane while we looked for a house. After the storm, no immediate damage was noticed, although we didn't clear the whole thing out.

Long story short, when we went to move our stuff out to put in purchased home, there was moisture and mold everywhere. We took pics, added values, then they put a $15k deposit in the bank within a few days.

Great company.
