Didn't want to hijack the ATL is the best place on earth thread. I would rather live in a town of less than 100,000 ( probably way less) than any big city. All the hate generated towards Atlanta, NO, Houston, NYC, etc is justified . Traffic, crime, HOAs, apartment living, subdivisions, and the general crowdedness of everything. Living an hour or away form the healthcare, airport, sports of a major city is fine. That is all.

As someone who has needed urgent medical care I can tell you that I would not have made it had I lived an hour away from medical care.

Cities are great if you have money. If you are scraping by, I agree.

You can live in a small town and still be close to these things. You just need to know where to look.

I live out in the middle of nowhere and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s usually pretty quiet and as an added bonus, I’m surrounded by rednecks. Sure, there are trailers nearby but I damn sure don’t have to worry about any woke shite around me.

As long as you don’t have trailer parks, junked houses, and meth heads within 20 miles, I agree that smaller towns can be great

Small cities are how we're intended to live IMO

Cities have persisted because people are drawn to live in community.

The problem in the South is that there is a very, very little ground between big city ills and small town blight.

I’m ten minutes away from a town with a population barely over 2000, and that’s just the way I want it.

My ideal place is probably a town of 20-50k. I have no desire to live in a big city ever again.

I don’t think you know what “lame” means. Rednecks are trashy but are generally good people and can be entertaining at times. Woke democrats are a cancer to society. Give me rednecks any day.

Really? Are people made to attend redneck training like they're made to attend EDI training? Are there redneck messages imbedded in nearly all forms of modern entertainment?

Atlanta has amazing small towns within an hour

Get the best of both worlds - far enough from the city with small town feels but close enough to big city things like professional sports, concerts, amusement parks, etc

Depends on the city, depends on the town.

Would I rather be in Chicago or Deridder, LA? Chicago by a mile.

Would I rather be in someplace like Kennebunkport, ME or Dallas? Kennebunkport and it’s not close.

He said less than 100,000. There's lots of places under that number is good health care.

I'd take rednecks too, but there is a reason plenty of rural (white) areas have petty crime, absent fathers, meth, properties in disrepair, filled with people on the public dole, etc., etc.

Maybe that stuff doesn't make them "bad people" but it's certainly not anything to admire. We pretty often portray the South as filled with salt of the earth rednecks who look and live a little differently but are all honest, wholesome, hardworking, etc. But in reality it's a completely mixed bag.

Cities offer more jobs and opportunities. Your income is capped in a small town just by the volume of the money supply. Income potential is far greater in a big city. You can commute, but that takes away from your quality of life.
