Walmart will close its last two stores in crime-plagued Portland, Ore., as the city contends with a relentless wave of shoplifting that has hammered retailers.

The two stores, located in the North and Southeastern sections of the Rose City, will shutter on March 24.

The closure announcement followed a “careful review of their overall performance,” a Walmart spokesperson told local news outlet KPTV last month.

Nearly 600 employees who worked at the two stores face potential layoffs or transfers.

Who would have thought that not prosecuting crime would lead to more crime

So the lazy dirtbags of the world ruin it for everyone else. They shoplifted so much that Walmart had enough and left

Will not make a difference because the DA ignore the cases, that is the problem. So the police have stopped worrying about it.

Sounds stupid enough to be said by someone from Portland.

Question,

Can large retail stores sue state governments for not enforcing laws on the books/indirectly encouraging shoplifting?

I feel like if this was a possibility states may be more inclined to enforce.

Fine with me. These are necessary steps to get normal folks pissed off enough to raise hell against the libs and possibly vote differently.

Thank goodness I don’t live there.

My God, the third guy on the top row looks like Sloth from the Goonies. Probably shoplifted all of the Baby Ruth’s and Rocky Road.

Portland is too racist and white. They need to diversify by inviting some Korean immigrants. Koreans tend to stand up for themselves and protect their property.

Not sure about retailers but citizens surely can.

Absolutely won't win and wouldn't change anything though.
