Electric cars are just fine-- the problem was the brand she chose: Tesla

Nothing comparable to her unfortunate event would have occurred in an electric manufactured by Nissan, Toyota, GM, Ford, or any reputable manufacturer

That's so 2023. It'll be more uncomfortable in 2024, by a full month: the dreaded HEAT DOME is settling in place over Texas and LA as early as today, and the 90-day outlook show it's not moving anytime soon. Not good news for outage victims in the Houston area

That's a perversion of the true meaning of the phrase when describing Elon Musk, but his racial and ethnic origin is irrelevant. He just makes crappy cars which compensate for their substandard performance by their plug-ugly appearance.

She could have opened the door at any time though. Kinda silly.

That's a bit strong, but not altogether untrue.

I haven't looked closely at them recently, but the ones I did look at and rode in were really lacking in fit and finish and NVH.

I imagine they've improved by now since they've moved final assembly indoors.

Apparently you and 100+ other OT brainiacs don't think much of reading either.

Tesla offers manual door releases for situations with depleted power, but Janel opted to wait, fearing potential damage to her car. "Inside my car, it's 103 degrees, so I'm slightly freaking out. I hope I don't run out of air," Janel said.

She could have gotten out at any time but decided against it.

Once I saw she opted to not use the manual release for the doors I quit reading. Unfortunately that was deep into the article

Well that was stupid. Maybe roll windows down or get out of car before starting the update? Surely that’s possible

so... 115 or 103?

Both. I believe they meant that it was 115 degrees ambient outside and the internal temperature reached 103.

The manual door release can only damage it if you close it after manually opening it. If you left the door open after getting out you could close it again when the update finished and the car resumed normal function

Am I the only one this sounds crazy to?

It isn't unusual at all and the same thing occurs in many ICE engines cars as well. It happens on cars with frameless doors. When the door opens the window drops down about 1/2" to release it from the tight trim fit then when you shut the door it raises back up to make the tight seal. If the battery is dead it has to pull its way past the rubber seal and if you do it enough it will damage that rubber seal. The only car we have now that has frameless windows is my 911 and the window drops and raises that little bit when when opening the door. I have had multiple cars in the past that worked like this.

I guess it's more scary because you capitalized it, huh? Know what y'all should do? Name them. That'll REALLY make it hit home.

"Heat Dome Jamila is settling in over parts of Texas and Louisiana. What to do to prepare. Contra Flow will be used for evacuations."

Why did she choose to do the update in a parking lot instead of waiting until she got home?
