St. George Opposition Committing to Lawsuits

From Business Report Daily PM Edition:
quote:
It is not clear when lawsuits might be filed, but businessman and philanthropist John Engquist says he and others in the business community will support legal efforts to oppose St. George. “Two thousand people should not be able to decide the fate of everyone in Baton Rouge,” Engquist says. “This fight is just starting.”
Legal challenges are expected to focus, among other things, on the fact that the entire parish was not allowed to vote on the incorporation issue. Existing state law calls only for voters within the proposed city boundaries to vote on incorporation. State Sen. Yvonne Dorsey-Colomb, however, proposed a carefully worded bill in the Legislature earlier this year that would apply only to East Baton Rouge Parish and, if enacted, would have required parishwide approval on St. George incorporation.
Cormier says she is somewhat aware of the legal plans taking shape and intends to be a named plaintiff in at least one lawsuit. She says more than a dozen others have also expressed an interest in putting their names on a lawsuit. “I will be one of the plaintiffs as will many others,” she says.

It was inevitable, especially in our litigious State

Uhhh, that’s how the electoral process works, Mr. Engquist.
And when those 2,000 people are a part of the segment that’s footing the majority of the bill? You bet your arse they get to decide.

But it didn't pass so why even waste the time to type up this nonsense?

And that’s the law.

But it wasn’t enacted.

I think the second sentence answers any questions about the first.

frick that cun*t!
The method of incorporating (and those entitled to vote for it) has been well established.
The fact that the effort to change the law frickING FAILED means that your lawyers will be committing a knowing fraud on the courts if they argue this as a basis for challenge.

The opposition could use this as a means and effort to change existing state law.

Wanting to use the courts to undo election results they don't like.....where have we heard that song before?

Prediction: The STG opposition files suit, requesting an injunction. The matter is "randomly alloted" to Judge Fields. The injunction is granted, nonsense ensues, and the incorporation is delayed once again.

Why didn't they do this when Central incorporated? I would say the precedent has been set.

This isn’t the only parish where folks voted to incorporate, It has been going on for decades.
You’d think this was revolutionary.
