re: Prime example of why you don’t save your ace for the second game going on in Arkansas

So Jay made the right call.
The correct decision is whatever results in advancing into super regionals. That is not decided yet. I don't care what his decision is as long as it results in advancing. ...
re: How good is Long Island? Can they beat UNC?
Posted by DRock88 on 5/31/24 at 2:37 pm
They have a few guys that can hit a little bit, but they have no pitching whatsoever.
On the other hand, you have to wonder if UNC's hitters will struggle with subpar pitching and/or if UNC's pitching falls off the rails. UNC is a pretty well versed team/program, but the defending national cha...

I remember. I remember Jay shoving Milam in all fall and spring when he was struggling, too. He saw something and never gave up on it. The kid is a gamer....
re: Why would a depth limited team like LSU start an ACE against a lower seeded team?

I'm over it. I'm fine with them throwing whoever. Just advance. If they don't advance, we will be right back here discussing it again. ...

All of these people wanted to fire Jay for starting Skenes against Tulane last year. The argument is that Wofford is a way better team than Tulane. I just don't know that I even agree with that, stats aside. Personally, I felt like Skenes neded to go against Tulane last year. Put the hot, in-sta...
re: Jay Johnson always pitches his ace in game 1 of a regional

Agreed. ...
In that case you still have to win 2 games (likely against UNC) without either of them.
But is that better or worse than being 1-1 and having burned them both? If you're 1-1 having burned only 1 of them, you still have 1 of them to use in a loser's bracket game or the 'ship. If y...

Everyone always pitches their ace in game 1 until they don't.
I don't think this decision is as cut and dry as most are making it. If you can win game 1 without Jump or Holman, UNC will get both Jump and Holman. I'm not so much interested in being 2-0 as I am in advancing.
I'm not scared...

I know it's an unpopular opinion, and I'm not completely sold on it, but I think I may hold Jump and Holman. If we can get by game 1 with our #3/bullpen, we may not need to beat UNC with our #3/bullpen. I feel like UNC in Chapel Hill is a different thing than Oregon St at Alex Box last year. ...

Does this mean we're going to win or not? Does it mean we have to pitch Jump against Wofford? ...
re: So how are we pitching the regionals?
Posted by DRock88 on 5/27/24 at 8:21 pm
I don't disagree with throwing off. In fact, I think Jay would consider it, given that he pulled Ack early yesterday. I'd just have to see it to believe it.
I could make a really strong argument for starting Ack in game 1. I could make a really strong argument for going right out with Jump o...
re: Stop being scared of Wofford
Posted by DRock88 on 5/27/24 at 8:09 pm
I think I'd save Jump and Holman for Saturday and Sunday. I don't think Jay will, and he knows better than I do. Alot to navigate in a road regional against the #4 seed. You could throw off in game 1, win, and still be hurting for innings. You could throw on schedule, win 2, and maybe still be h...

re: Wes Johnson STILL throwing shade
Posted by DRock88 on 5/27/24 at 6:49 pm
Wes is a weird dude, like most of the pitching coaches around the country (NCAA and MLB). I still wonder exactly when it happened, before or after Wes was talking HC coaching jobs with other schools, but Jay took over the pitching staff last season. I still believe Wes had laid the foundation but...

I don't think he thought about it at all. Ack was going one time through the order. End of story. He wanted Ack to get us started on the right foot and he did. Ack may be needed on Friday. He's a reliever that has thrown alot of pi...
