Yes in absolute dollars needed to be saved. Taxable brokerage account in addition to those is also required to bridge early retirement before some retirement vehicles can be accessed. We had kids late…I would think that accelerated our savings rate at an earlier age which gave more time for compounding. I don’t think it impacted career growth per se. ...

If we had remained DINKS, 45 would have been realistic and we would have travelled for at least a 1/3 of the year as “retirement”. With children, we will keep the cash flowing in from active work at least until 50. I will likely become a college professor and/or become a CFP to do pro bono finan...
