re: Is today the coldest southern June day that you have ever experienced in the southern US?
Posted by TU Rob on 6/1/24 at 7:27 pm
I’m glad it was mild today. Woke up to find the blower in my HVAC wasn’t working. Never hit 70 here today so the house isn’t quite oven/sauna levels yet. My HVAC guy has already ordered the replacement under the warranty since the unit is less than 4 years old. Hoping it comes in early next week bef...
re: Has anyone here ever moved away from home after getting married and have kids?
Posted by TU Rob on 5/30/24 at 6:05 pm
Dothan, AL
We probably know each other or we know each others family members. I left Dothan/Troy 20 years ago and it had grown considerably since then. Hardly recognize things when we go to visit family. But it still seems like a great place to raise kids. Large enough for good emp...
re: Apple Watch cellular, couple of questions…
I really like Apple Watch cellular for use with Airpod Pros and Spotify without a phone while running.
I didn't realize the watch would do this now. Going to have to try it out. Can it be paired with any Bluetooth device/speaker or does it have to be headphones or Air pods?

re: AHSAA rules pertain to off season workouts
Posted by TU Rob on 5/30/24 at 8:48 am
Not sure if it has changed, but back in the dark ages when I was in high school in Alabama, for football the rule was something vague. Offseason workouts were fine, and we did weights and conditioning a few mornings or afternoons a week during the summer. But a coach could not be around if there w...
re: I just hit a big weight loss milestone

Checking in.....
Good job. I was pretty similar to you. I probably topped out close to 200 at one point during the Covid daily drinking. I was hovering around 190 when I started actively trying to lose weight. I got down to mid 1...
Pretty fricking ridiculous students have to subsidize this crap.
Most major universities do something similar. Some of the smaller schools do things like free student attendance at sporting events. I know when I was at Troy we paid a nominal athletics fee, but we could go to any h...
re: 2 days away from vacation and both your kids start coughing
Posted by TU Rob on 5/28/24 at 10:47 am
Coughing is usually fine and they get over it quickly. It is the stomach virus where they're blowing it out of both ends that end up costing you a vacation. ...
re: Do you use a wash cloth in the shower daily?
Posted by TU Rob on 5/28/24 at 10:07 am
I haven't used a washcloth in the shower in decades. I'm not scrubbing something between my cheeks that will end up being used to dry my hands and face after brushing my teeth after it gets washed again. Baby wipes after pooping keeps everything back there clean anyways. ...
re: Tonsillectomy as an adult
Embrace the weight loss from it.
Yes, forgot to mention that in my post. The ENT even said I will lose around 12-15 lbs during recovery, and that for even better results with not snoring, to try and keep that off.
Another thing that made me think of, start taking stool soften...
re: Tonsillectomy as an adult
Posted by TU Rob on 5/24/24 at 9:57 am
I had mine out when I was 36. I had a bad case of tonsilitis when I was 18, but I was about a week out from starting college, so I just fought through it and figured I could get them taken out over Christmas break. In the 3-4 months until Christmas, they never bothered me again, so we didn't bothe...
re: Forehead wrinkles
Posted by TU Rob on 5/23/24 at 2:13 pm
All botox does is relax the muscles so that you don't wrinkle up your face as much by not moving the muscles as much. It started a long time ago as a medicine for muscle spasms and other things. I've had injections in my back a few times, but what they typically use in the face is a very small ser...
re: Why do people take so long to order fast food?
Posted by TU Rob on 5/23/24 at 8:43 am
Order in the app ahead of time, and if you arrive and there are more than 3 cars in line, switch your pickup from drive thru to counter or curbside. BK is also bad about telling people not to pull around yet once their order is taken. It is bad employees trying to game the timer system. That just...
re: Treadmill or stationary bike?
Posted by TU Rob on 5/16/24 at 8:25 pm
I have a Peloton and love it. That being said, if I were buying something now it would likely be a rower. I ride every other day and lift on the days between. Treadmills take up a good bit of space as well but many of the rowers fold up to a compact footprint when not in use. ...
re: Echo/Alexa equipped product w/ camera for FaceTime function?
Posted by TU Rob on 5/16/24 at 7:42 pm
I think some of the larger Echo shows can do Zoom. I know they can call other Echo/Amazon devices. I’ve called my kids kindle fire tablet before just to test it out. Or you can get the Alexa app on any phone and it can call those as well. ...
re: Montgomery AL surrounding areas
Troy but outside of your 30 minutes.
Depending on traffic, it might actually be a better commute into Montgomery than the Prattville/Millbrook areas. You have to take 65 South into Montgomery from those. Also depends on where the office is. If you're working in downtown Montgome...
re: With the general consensus around here being that Milroe is an average QB…
Posted by TU Rob on 5/14/24 at 4:27 pm
Who is going to be the center will have more of an impact than coaching. It seems like half of his big plays running last year were a result of him having to improvise after fielding a grounder or lunging sideways to catch an errant snap. ...
re: ESPN Releases Week 1 game times
Posted by TU Rob on 5/14/24 at 9:32 am
Clemson and Georgia at Noon is kind of a bummer.
Yes, but Labor Day weekend and having a dome to play it in means you can have that one at any time. If that was a home game it would probably be in the evening, but neutral site gives it more flexibility. ...
re: Shark Bite Fittings
Posted by TU Rob on 5/14/24 at 9:29 am
I've used them a few times, but down in the basement where all of my water lines run along the joists. If there's a failure there, I just have wet concrete in my garage. We had some renovations done about 10 years ago, and they used the brass compression rings. I had one of those fail and create ...
re: Out of power for 12 hours/fridge and freezer
Posted by TU Rob on 5/14/24 at 8:41 am
I've got an infrared temperature gun that comes in handy in these situations. Open the fridge and aim the laser at the milk jug. If it is still in the low 40s I'd keep it, anything higher than that I'd probably toss all dairy and meat. ...
re: List all bones you've broken in your lifetime and how it happened.
Posted by TU Rob on 5/14/24 at 8:07 am
Not a ton, but I've had stitches more times than I can remember. Left collarbone when I was about 5 or 6. Dislocated a pinky toe, broken/jammed fingers a few times, and took a basketball to the nose in high school. Ended up needing surgery later to repair a deviated septum. ...
